UNITED sTATEsfPATENT OFFICE.
BENNETT'KK. BENSON, 0F HA'ITON, NORTH DAKOTA.
Be it known that I, BENNETT K. BENSON, a subject of the King ofk Great Britain, residing. at Hatton, in the county of 'Iraill and State of North Dakota, have 'invented certainvnew and useful Improvementsin Y Jewelry-Settings, of which thel following is a specification.
f'lhis invention relates to new and useful improvements in jewelry `for personal adornment and r,more particularlyy to an im proved setting for finger rings, scarf pins, brooches, cuff-links and other` articles of jewelry.v 1
The primary object of the invention is to `provide a flat plate or panel adapted to be rigidly vattached toy a supporting means whereby the panel maybe suitably lnscribed 0r set with an ornamental insignia so that the inscription or insignia will have a neat and ornamental appearance.
The invention also includes an arrangement whereby the panel is rigidly attached y to the supporting element so that casual or accidental displacement of the display panel.
is prevented.
yA furtherk object of the vinvention is to providea device of this character whichcon sists of comparatively few parts and is simple in construction, but durable and well adapted to withstand the rough usage to which devices of this character are ordinarily subjected. Y j
For a full description of the invention and the advantages and merits thereof, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which z Figure 1 is an edge elevation of a finger rin@ showing my invention applied thereto. ig. 2 is a section takenon the line 2,-2
of Fig. 1.
-Fig. 3 is a plan view of the yring con# f structed in accordance with my invention. Y
Fig. 4 is a of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is an edge view of a slightly modisection taken on the line 4-4 fied form of the invention.
dicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the loop 1 is constructed of suitable metal such as is commonly ems -Specication of Letters Patent. Patented June 1920. Apiiiicatio nica December 21, 191s. serial No. 267,748.-
ployed for making finger rings and is shaped to fit the finger upon whichthe ring isto be mounted. The loop 1 is shaped to making jewelry. These' ` plates 3 and 4 are preferab y ofrectangularformation to pre-V sent comparatively large flat surfaces. The plate 4 is superimposed on the plate 3 and the ytwo contacting surfaces are cemented or otherwise securely fastenedl together. The contacti surface, in each plate, however, is provi ed with parallel grooves or recesses whichextend from one edge to the other ofthe plate and when the two plates are fastened together as shown to advantage in Fig. 4 of the drawings, the grooves or recesses provide openings extending edgewise through the panelV formed by the two plates. The plates kare of the same width as the length of the straight portions of theretaining b'ars 2 so that the retaining bars begin Vto converge at opposite ed es of the plate and any movement of the p ate on the retaining bars is thereby prevented.
The two plates 3 and 4 are rigidly cevmented together and the upper surface of the panel thus formed presents a suitable display surface upon which may be inscribed any desirable inscription or which may receive a suitable setting or insignia. The loop 1, of course, might be in the orm of a fastening pin such as is employed for scarf pins or brooches, and might also be ka cuff link, it being merely necessary to so the ring and lie 1n and fl in the same manner as is above described. This modilication will illustrate one of the various modifications with which the two plates forming the panel may be employed.
i The foregoing description and accompanying drawings have reference to what might be considered to be the preferred or approved forni of my invention. I desire it to be understood, that I may make such corrections in the combination, construction and arrangement of pai'ts, materials, dimensions, et cet-era, as may prove expedient and fall within the scope of the appended claims. j
Having thus fully described my invention what l claim asnew and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is :f-
- l l. A jewelry mounting comprising means for attaching the mounting to the person, the said means including a pair of spaced apart parallel retaining bars of predetermined length, a pair of connecting plates of a width equaltothe length of the parallel por-v tions of thesaid retaining lbars, the proximate surfaces of the said plates being pro" vided-with complementary grooves, the said 'plates having their contacting surfaces secured together wherebyy thevsaid' comple-v 1 mentary grooves form openings extending the edgewisevthrough the panel formed b said plates, the said retaining 'bars eing mounted in the said openings and relatively connected exteriorly of said opening to prevent movement ofsaid plate on said bar.
A jewelry mounting comprising a iinger loop having a pair of laterally spaced apart parallel retaining bars having their adjacent ends relatively joined to provide a unitary looped structure, a flat panel provided with openings extending edgewise` through the plate andV receiving the said spaced retaining bars, the said panel coinprising united plates provided with complementary grooves forming the said openings, the joined ends of said retaining bars providing abutments preventing movement of said panel on said bars. i l i Y, 3. A jewelry mounting comprising a supporting unitadapted for attaching the mounting to a person and a panel consisting panel supporting members separately join-` ing the branches of one forked portion'to the branches of 4the adjacent forked portion,
whereby a suitable panel receiving face isprovided between the forked portions of said one-piece support, said forked-connecting members adapted to respectively be received within -the separate passagesof said panel, whereby the, latter'mayrbe immovably supported between the forked portions of said support. i j
In'ftestiniony whereof I affix my signature in presence of twowitnesses. j j
