` OLUF LEE, OF ROLETTE, NORTH DAKOTA.
COMBINATION-TOOL.
Application filed January 27, 1917. Serial No. 144,897.
To all whom z't may Gomera Be it known that I, OLUF Lnn, a citizen 'of the United States, residing at Bolette, in the county of Rolette, in the State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination-Tools, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in combination tools and its object is to provide a tool-head adapted to interchangeably carry a plurality of tools. VVith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the combination and arrangenient of parts to be hereinafter fully describcd in this specification, pointed out in the appended claim and illustrated in the accompanying` drawings which form a part of the specification and in which- `Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section to afford a better illustration, of the tool.
Fig. 2 is a section taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 3.
Figs. 8 and 4 are details of some of the tools that may be used with the present head.
Figs. 5, 6, 7 and 8 illustrate other tools provided with shanks so formed as to be capable of operative engagement with the present head.
Like reference characters denote corrosponding parts throughout the several views.
The reference nunicral 1 denotes the handle of the tool which is provided with the hammer-like head 2 which is' formed with. a terminal socket 3 adapted to receive the shank 4; of any tool 5 which shank is threaded at 6 to engage with socket 8 the axis of which is disposed at substantially right angles to the handle 1 the shank being engaged by the set-screw 7 that extends through a perforation in the socket 8. In Fig. 1 the socket 3 retains the shank a of a pick. In Fig. 3 wrench jaws are shown, the handle `of one of which inay carry a leather punch 1a. In Figs. 7 and 8 a saw blade is shown which is provided with a shank 4 by means of which the blade may be secured to the head 2. In Fig. 5 a nut cracker or pincers is shown carried by the head 2, this tool being provided with an auxiliary handle 5a normally extending in parallel relation to the handle 1.. The handles 1 and 5u are manually pressed together to bring the jaws of the tool together upon the work. In Fig. G the shank is lntegral with a stationary jaw A to which the movable jaw B is pivoted at (J, said jaw terminating in the handle D. The free end of the jaw A is beveled as at E and pointed as atF while the jaw B is recessed as at G and serrated. This tool is a combination nut cracker, pipe wrench and stamping tool. The work is retained between the free end of the jaw A and the serrated portion of the jaw B. The tool is operated by manually pressing the handles 1 and D together thus bringing the jaws A and B together upon the work. Small objects, such as small pieces of pipe and the like, may be gently held between these j aws, or by pressing them firmly together the imprint of the serrations of jaw B may be formed upon the work.
VVhat is clairned is A combination tool of the character described comprising a fixed handle, a head carried at one end of said fiXed handle and having in one side thereof a threaded socket with its aXis arranged at substantially right angles to the direction of length of the fixed handle, a vfixed jaw, a threaded shank on the fiXed jaw removably screwed into said threaded socket on the head, means passing through the head and entering said socket for engaging with the shank whereby to lock the latter from turning, a movable jaw coperating with and pivoted on said fixed jaw, and a movable handle on the movable jaw extending substantially parallel with said fixed handle whereby said handles may be squeezed together in a single hand of the operator to swing said movable jaw closed against the fixed jaw.
In testimony that I` claim the foregoingr` as my own I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing wit-
