Be it known that I, EMMI COURT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lakota, in the county of Nelson and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination-Tools, of which the following is a specification. I
My present invention relates to combina-' tion tools, and consists in the improvement of a convenient tool which is simple, strong and durable, and is capable of being put to many uses.
- The primary object of my invention is to provide such a toolembodying upon a single member, a drill, a wrench,.a pipe Wrench, a pair of calipers, a hatchet, a hammer, a soldering tool, a marker, and in fact many other household necessities too-numerous'to mention.
A further object of my invention is to insure a rigid connection of the tools with the shank, and at'the same time to enable the convenient assemblage and detachment thereof without requiring any complicated adjustment of the parts.
aving these and other objects of general utility and design in View, I have illustrated a preferred embodiment of my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is an assembled elevation of my combination tool;
Fi 2 is a top plan View;
bi J Fig. 3 1S a fragmental under plan of the tool as shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is an elevation similar to Fig. 1, showing the assembling of a drill chuck to the spindle; V
Fig. 5 is a section on line 55 of F g. 4;
Fig. 6 is a section on line 66 of Flg. 4:;
Fig. 7 is a detail of the end of the spindle adapted to receive the chuck;
Fig. 8 is a section on line 8-8 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 9 is a dissembled view of the body or shank of my tool;
Fig. 10 is a view of a section of the shank shown with a hammer head secured thereto;
Fig. 11 is a view corresponding to Fig. 10, showing a hatchet head in place of the hammer; I
Fig. 12 is a fragmentary detail of the opposite end of the shank shown assembled to a marker;

. spindle 28.
'that the shank 15 is I Similar reference characters refer respec tively to similar parts throughout the several views.
My tool comprises a rectangular shank or bar 15 (Fig. 9) one end 15 of which is provided with a plurality of spaced apertures 16, 1'7 and 18; the other end terminates in a stationary serrated jaw 19, having an aperture 20 adjacent the base thereof for the reception of a pin to pivotally support a movable jaw to be hereinafter described.
Tools such as a hammer 21, hatchet 22, or wrench jaw 23, are fastened tothe bar 15 by means of a suitable bolt 24, passing therethrough as shown. A bracket may be rigidly secured to the shank at 18, having journaled thereto a beveled gear 26 meshing with a driving gear 27, keyed to a threaded A wrench jaw 29 is slidably mounted upon the shank 15 and has an aperture therethrough, through which spindle 28 passes, and a set-screw 30 extends into said aperture and engages the threads on the spindle, so that as the spindle is rotated. the jaw 29 will be brought to or separated from the aw 23. v
When it is desired to assemble a drill, the bracket 25 is slidably mounted on the shank, the spindle 28 brought through an aperture in the jaw 23, and a drill chuck 31 mounted thereon (Figs. k7).
A toothed jaw 32 coacting with the jaw 19, may be pivoted at 20 for the assembling of a plier or pipe wrench, and caliper arms 33-33 may be mounted on the outer ends of these jaws 19 and 32, as shown in Fig. 1, an adjusting screw 34 passing through the respective jaws.
A marker 35 may be secured to the jaw 19 in a similar manner; or a soldering iron 36 may be gripped between the jaws 32 and 19, as shown in Fig. 14.
It will thus be apparent to those skilled in the art to which my invention appertains, capable of carrying practically any character of tool, but for the sake of brevity I have shown and described only a few specific toolsf What I claim is In a tool of the character described, a bar, a stationary tool part fixed at one end of said bar, a movable tool part slidable on the bar, a bracketslidable on said bar behind the movable tool part, means to adjustably lock said bracket on the bar, an operating member for said movable tool part carried by said bracket and movable tool part, both as my own I have hereto aflixed my signaof said tool parts being adapted to receive ture in the presence of two subscribing Wit- 10 said. operating member therethrough, means nesses. for actuating said operating member, and
5 means carried by said movable tool part for operative engagement with the operating" Witnesses: member. I a O. NLFRIOHI In testimony that I claim the foregoing JOE BUMALER.
