Description
, A. J. EDWARDS. COLLAR BUTTON AND NECKTIE SLIDE.
- INVENTOR Albert J. Edwards ATTORNEY UNlTED srArss ALBERT J. EDWARDS, 0F INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA.
GOLIhAIIEt-BUT'I'ON AND NEOKTIE-SLIDE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 1, 1920.
Application filed January 19, 1920. Serial No. 352,428.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALBERT J. EDWARDS,
lar to slide easily, it being among the objects of this invention to produce a device which will function as a collar button and necktie slide, which is easy toadjust, and which does not allow the collar to ride up on the neck.
In carrying the objects of my invention into effect, I provide a device which. is formed from a single piece of material, such as metal, celluloid, etc., and has thereon a shoulder which engages the button hole of the collar and also has an upwardly extended portion which rests in the neck band of the shirt securely holding the collar and shirt in proper position. A tie slide is formed by bending the other end of the blank in the reverse direction.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof and in which similar reference characters denote similar parts,
Figure 1, illustrates a rear View of a collar, some parts being broken away to show my new device in position,
Fig. 2, a view partially in section showing a collar and shirt provided with my device, and
Figs. 3 and 4, side and front views of the device respectively.
The ordinary collar lhas a rear button hole 2 which is lined up with the rear button hole 3 of the shirt. The device which holds the two together comprises a body portion 4 the sides of which taper, as shown at 5, the widest portion of the body 4 being at the lower end thereof. Shoulders 6 are formed on the base portion and an offset 7 is formed adjacent thereto, the extreme end of the body portion being bent upwardly, as shown at 8, to form a locking member which fits into the neck band of the shirt. The upper end of body portion 4 is bent downwardly on itself to form a tongue 9 on the side of body portion 4 opposite to bent portion 8.
The tie is inserted in the space between portions 4 -and 9 and there is no tendency for the necktie to bind in the collar. Due to the shoulders 6 the collar is prevented from moving up over the edges 5 of the body 4; and the bent portion 8, together with offset 7 form a locking device which prevents the shirt from moving either up or down. It is seen, therefore, that with this device in place there is no tendency for relative movement of shirt and collar, nor can the necktie bind in the collar.
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A collar button and necktie slide combined comprising a tapering body portion, the lower end thereof being wider than the upper, shoulders formed on said lower end, an offset portion in proximity to said shoulder, the extreme lower end of the device being bent upwardly on the same side as the offset, and the extreme upperend being tapered and being bent downwardly on the side opposite to the upwardly bent end.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal at Indianapolis, Indiana, this 14th day of January, A. D. nineteen hundred and twenty.
ALBERT J. EDWARDS. a 5.] \Vitnesses I H. C. BInnMAN, -MARTHA MARTINDALE;
