Description

H- R. HOL'BROOK. KEY AND CONTAINER.
LICATION FILED SEPT.I5
1,340,850, I Patented May 18, 1920.
HARRY B. HOLBROOK, OF ATTLEIBORO, MASSACHUSETTS.
KEY AND CONTAINER.
AppIieation filed September 15, 1919.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HARRY R. HoLBnooK, acitizen of tne United States, residing at Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and State of iwlassachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Keys and Containers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
It is an object of this invention to provide a unitary article that is formed and arranged to be used as a switch or lock key and at the same time as a container for holding a motor-vehicle operators license or other paper or record.
The character of the article and a method of forming it will be apparent from the following description when read in connection with the accompanying drawing, forming part hereof, wherein an embodiment of the invention is disclosed, for purposes of illustration.
Like reference-characters refer to corre sponding parts in the views of the drawing, of which Figure 1' is a side elevation;
Fig. 2 is an end elevation; and
Fig. 3 is a view of the blank from which the body portion of the article is formed.
Having more particular reference to the drawing, 4 designates a hollow body, which preferably is made comparatively fiat so that it may be carried conveniently in a pocket. The body portion is closed at one end by a cap member 5 fixed thereto, and at the other end by a similar member 6, constituting a removable cover. The body of the article is arranged to receive and contain matches, cards, folded papers such as a license, or other articles.
Projecting from the body are one or more members, 7, fashionedto function as a key for operating a lock, switch, or other device.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 18, 1920.
Seria1 No. 323,919,
The projections 7 preferably extend from one of the longer marginal edges of the body and between the planes of the two fiat sides, in order that the article may be generally flat and adapted to be carried in a blank, such as shown by Fig. 8, is cut from stock with projections 7 extending at opposite places from opposite margins. Then the blank is bent over a properly-shaped ,form and the opposite margins brought into abutment to form a tight joint, and the projections 7 also are brought together and shaped to answer the particular purpose for which intended. The cap and cover also may be stamped or otherwise formed from sheet metal, after which they are placed on the container, the cap being secured by soldering or in any other suitable manner.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is a 1. A comparatively flat hollow container formed from a blank of sheet metal having projections extending at opposite places from opposite margins and bent over to bring the margins into abutment and the projections together to constitute operating members for a lock.
2. A comparatively flat hollow container formed of sheet material by bringing into abutment free opposite edges of the material and having operating projections formed integrally of the material and extending from said free opposite edges in abutment,
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
HARRY R. HOLBROOK.
