(10MB-CLEANER.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it'known that I GEORGE RECHTER, a.
citizen of theUnited tates, residing at the city and county of San Francisco and State of California, have :invented new and; useful Improvements in Comb-Cleaners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a comb cleaner, and particularly to improvements on the structure shown in Patent No. 1,239,964, en-
titled Comb'cleaner, issued to me Septem..
ber 11th, 1917.
One of the objects of the present invention is to provide a cleaner bar especially adapted for c'ombs, said bar being rovided with a series of spaced members a apted to pass between .the teeth of the comb vand movable from anupper position at the base of the teeth to a point near the outer end of the teeth so -that strippinr or cleaning-of the teeth and removal of1 foreign matter which may have collected therebetween is accomplished. Another object of the invention is to provide means for limiting the movement of the cleaner bar'to prevent accidental removal or loss 'of the same, and furthermore to provide means for locking the cleaner bar against movement when its upper position .is assumed.4 Further objects will hereinafter appear.
The invention consists of the parts and the construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more fully described and claimed, having reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is aside elevation of the comb showing the application of the cleaner bar.
Fig.. 2 is a similar view showing the cleaner bar moved to its lower position.
Fie. 3 is a plan' view of the blank from which the cleaner bar is formed.
F ig. 4 is a perspective view of the cleaner F ig. 5 is an end view of the comb showinfr the position of the cleaner bar.
, eferring to the drawings in detail, A indicates the back of a comb and 2 ,the teeth. The teeth may be all of the coarse variety or all of .the fine, or, as here shown, half fine and half coarse. The comb is provided at its opposite ends with enlarged terminal teeth 3, which teeth are vprovided near their lower ends with shoulders 4 for the purpose of limiting the downward movement 'of the cleaner bar as will hereinafter be described.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 11, 1920.
Application led April 30, 1919. Serial No'. 293,728.
The cleaner bar generally4 indicated at 5 is constructed of a single blank of metal (see Fig. 3) which is provided centrally. of itsl length with a plurality of openin s 6, between` which are formed ribs 7 w ich are adapted to pass between the teeth of the comb, while the teeth proper extend through the openings 6. The cleaner bar otherwise consists of a pair of side plates 8, on each end of which are formed right-angled eX- tensions 9. These extensions are adapted to be folded upwardly, as shown in' Figs. 1, 2 and 5, and each eftension is provided with a lateral lip 10, which is bent around the end of the comb to form a pair of shoulders which are adapted to engage the stop shoulders` 4 formed on the terminal teeth 3 'i of the comb. The extensions 9 formed on the side plates 8A are sufficiently long to pervmit the ribs 7 formed between thel side plates `to pass downwardly the entire length of the teeth when the bar is depressed, as shown in Fig. 2. The entire length of the teeth may in this manner be scraped and thoroughly cleaned merely by depressing the bar.
For the purpose of securing the cleaner bar when in the raised position, shown in Fig.- 1, I provide a pair of spring clips 11.
These clips are provided with projecting latch'members 12 which are adapted to engage recesses 13 formed on each side of the V,back portion of vthe comb, thus positively the ends of the latch members 12 being spaced from the clip sides.
In use, it will be apparent that sliding movement of the bar or forcing of the same in a downward direction upon the teeth will causethe ribs to engage the teeth and scrapel and remove hair and other foreign matter' which may have collected. This may beA readily wiped off when removed by the cleaner bar, thereby permitting the bar to be returned to its normal position where it is positively secured by means of the spring clips 11, thus leaving the comb in at clean and sanitar condition.
Having t us described my invention, what lfrom, sai
tween the teeth of the'comb and a `central relatively narrow and short sprin cli on each side late extending outwar y terevmembers;l exten ing thereecrossz the ends of clivs having transverse latchA y Hmmm the ldtch 'fromtiie sides 'of the clip, and e ends ofthe recesses extending but a shortdista'nce beyond 15 each of the `respective sides of the felipe. l
In testixnon whereof I have-hereunto set my hand- 1n they presence'off wo` subscribing witnesses. .y f-
