Be it known that I, GEORGE Hann, a citizen of the United States of America, a resident of the city of St. Louis', Stateof Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Supporters, of which the following is a full, clear, and eX- act description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification. Y

' My invention relates to a garment supporter, and more particularly to an improvement on the standard type of garment attaching devices now in general use, the object being to provide a st-rong 'and simple fastening device whereby the garment is irmly secured without materially wrinkling the garment at the fastening elements.

The device herein disclosedv comprises a garment receiving' loop having side members and a bottom member, the side members being' separated from each other to receive the garment holding button, and the bottom member being in the form of a bow providing a spreader on which free portions of the garment are permitted to spread away from the button. The button coperates with the side members of the loop to secure the garment, and when the'device is in service, the garment is firmly pulled onto the bow which serves as a spreader for portions of the garment at opposite sides of the button, thereby eliminating wrinkles which or dinarily occur at the portions of the garment adjacent to the button.

' The garment supporter herein shown comprises a suspension member l, preferably an elastic strap, andV wire loop 2 through which the suspension member passes, and a garment receiving loop A below the loop 2. In Fig. I I have shown a portion of the garment G secured by the loop A and a button B.

The garment receiving loop A is provided with a horizontal top member 3 located adjacent to the loop 2 and pivotally secured thereto by means of a flattened tube 4e which surrounds the adjacent members of the loops 2 and A.

The button B has a head 5 and a neck 6 secured to a liexible suspension strap 7 which passes around the tube il. The flexible strap 7 serves as means for attaching the button to the top of the garment receiving loop. The button is preferably made of rubber or other yielding material.

The garment receiving loop A may be a single piece of wire bent to form an upper loop member S through which the strap 7 is inserted, and an intermediate loop or openingadapted to receive the head of the button. The side members of the garment receiving loop are bowed away from each other, as shown at 9, to form the large loop or opening` through which the button is inserted, and these side members have approximately vertical lower portions l0 which are separated from each other to receive the neck of the butt-on. These lower portions l0 have diverging lower ends ll.

The bottom member 12 of the garment receiving' loop is preferably in the form of a bow which extends downwardly at opposite sides of the button to provide a spreader on which free portions of the garment G are permitted to spread away from the button and toward the lower ends of the bow. The diverging members ll are connected to the bow by means of return bends 13. The bow l2 is separated from the diverging members ll to provide oppositely disposed garment receiving recesses over the lower ends of the bow, and these recesses are located at opposite sides of the neck of the button to receive free portions of the garment.

In securing the garment G, the button together with a. portion of the garment is inserted between the bowed portions 9 of the side members and then forced downwardly to the positionshown in Fig. I. The neck 6 of the button passes downwardly between the side members l0, and the head 5, covered by the garment, lies in front of the side members. When the button is thus forced to the'positionshown in the drawing the neck 6 lies between the side members 10 at a point immediately above the middle of the bow 12, so as to firmly engage the garment between Y said neck and the separated side members and also between the neck and the relatively high middle portion of the bow. It will be noted that the garment is thus firmly secured or clamped at only three points which are indicated by X in Fig. 1, one ot said points being at the bottom of the neck where the neck lies very close to the lmiddle portion only o' the bow 12, and the other points being at opposite sides of the neck where it coperates with the side members 10. The garment is not' tightly held or clamped in the recess at opposite sides of the neck 6. rlfliese open recesses 15 are smaller than the neck of the button so as to prevent said neck from entering VYthe recesses.

The head 5 of the button-lies in iront ot' the middle portion of the bow 12 andl also in iront of the side members 10; however, the head 5 preferably does not completely cover the open recesses 15.

By combining the several elements with each other in the manner herein disclosed, the button will properly cope 'ate with the loop to lirmly secure the garment, and

undesirable wrinkling of the garment will be almost entirely eliminated at the lower end of the loop. The button neck 6 will cooperate with the bow 12 and side members 10 to firmly hold the garment at three separated points leaving adjacent portions of the garment `free to be pulled into the open recesses 15 at opposite sides of the neck. Vhen lthe device is in service, the garment will be firmly pulled onto the bow 12 which serves as a spreader for the free portions oi the garment at opposite sides of the neck, causing said free portions to spread away 'from the neck and pass into the open recesses 15 thereby eliminating wrinkles which ordinarily occur at the neck of the button. If the device did not have the recesses 15' nor the spreader bow 12, portions of the garment would be crowded around the neck of the button with the result of causing numerous folds or wrinkles at the rear or the fastening elements.

The new combination of elements eliminates the undesirable wrinkling and at the same time secures the garment more effectively than the ordinary fastener vnow in general use, for the portions ot the garment spread outon the bow- 12 will be exposed to the long holding surface of the bow and this long surface is well adapted to coperate with the head and neck of the button to firmly secure the garment, without liability of tearing or inutilating the same.
