FRANK O. HARVEY, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
IMPRovEMENT IN KNIFE-SCOURERS.
, Specification forming-part of Letters Patent No. 133,645, dated December 3, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
. Be it known that I, FRANK O. HARVEY, of Kansas City, in the ycounty of Jackson and State ot' Missouri, have invented an Improved Knife-Scourcr, of which the following is a specifcation:
The invention consists in a new article of manufacture adapted to be used for scouring knives whereby the labor of performing that operation is sensibly lessened, while the rapidity of its performanceis greatly increased.
Inthe drawing, Figure l is a perspective view, partly broken away; and Fig. 2 is a side elevation.
A in the drawing represents a trough, in which is placed a block, B. To the rear of this block is hinged a corresponding block, C,
which is provided withV` a handle, D. E is a pin that projects from the lower block and enters a hole, F, in the upper one, when the two are brought closely together. These blocks are covered with cloth, leather, or other pads, G G, that will receive and hold emery, brick dust or analogous substance, or the pads may be made of wood or metal. The operation is as follows: The two blocks are held down and togetherby one hand, while the knives are passed to and fro'between them until all the tarnish is removed from their surfaces. Any dust or emery which is withdrawn from the pads by the reciprocating motion of the knives is caught in the trough A. Thus it will be perceived that the knives can be rapidly and thoroughly cleaned, while nothing around is at all soiled.
The article is neat, cheap, and elfective.
The block B has two handles so that the top thereof may be held down without touching handle D, while the object of top handle is to prevent the scourer from slipping when not fastened down.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The improved knife-scourer formed by the combination of the trough A, lower block B, hinged block G provided with the handle D, and the pads G G, all as shown and described, for the purpose specified.
