Description
L. J. WILLIAMS.
improvement in Knife and Spoon-Polishers No. 132 -343. Patented on. "15,1872.
If sses' Iuve nior UNITED STATES LORENZO J. WILLIAMS, OF ROLLA, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN KNIFE AND SPDON POLISHERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 132,343, dated October 15, 1872.
vTo all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LORENZO J. WILLIAMS, of Rolla, in the county of Philps and in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined 'Knife and Spoon Polisher; and dohereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and. exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a knife and spoon polisher or cleaner, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention'appertains to make and use the'same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective View of my knife and spoon polisher, and Fig. 2 is a side or edge view of the knife for scraping the brick.
A represents a piece of smooth wood, forming the base of my device. At the lower end of the board A is a box, B, the outer side 0 of which is hinged, as shown. This box is for the purpose of holding the brick for cleaning. The top of the box B is formed of a slide, D, moving in grooves in the sides of the box, and having a knife-blade, E, attached to its inner This is used to shave the brick as it is edge.
shoved from the box. The brick-dust falls on the remainder of the board A, which may or may not be covered with some suitable material, and to which the knife or fork is applied, rubbing it briskly for a moment or two, and then applying it to the wiper G. This wiper consists of a piece of padded buckskin sprinkled with magnesia, and gives the steel a fine shining appearance. The spoon-cleaner consists of a convex pad, H, attached to the board A, and a concave pad, I, attached to the former by a hinge so as to shut together on the spoon. These pads are sprinkled with chalk or Tripoli, and by moving the spoon in a circle it -is rapidly cleaned. The whole is compact, durable, and cheap.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The within-described device, consisting of the board A, box B with sliding knife E, wiper G, and spoon-cleaner H I, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 13th day of August, 1872.
L. J. WILLIAMS. [L. s]
