' CLOTH-HOLDER.
YTo all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, JAMES A. FOEREST, a
citizen of the United States, residing at kthe same in a smooth condition without tearing or damaging the cloth, the construction of the device allowing for shrinkage and stretching.
Another object is the provision of a device of this character, which is simple and economical of construction and easily applied or removed.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will appear as the following description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings:
rFigure 1 is a` bottom plan view of an ironing board with the invention shown in position for use.
Fig. 2 is an edge view of the device removed from the board.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional View on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the ironing board is indicated at 10 and the cloth or cover at 11. The invention which is designed to be removably secured to the cloth or cover Vcomprises end members 12 and 13 Yand intermediate members 18. Each of the end members 12 and 13 are jof arcuate formation, conformed to the shape of the end of the board, to which they are secured, the end member 12 being of the greatest diameter is preferably provided with a brace 14. The device is preferably cut or otherwise formed from sheet metal, and both of the end members 12 and 13 have pivotally secured thereto, as indicated at 15, side arms 16. Theend members and arms are provided with laterally extending prongs 17, for'removable engagement withv the ironingboard cloth and by means of which the device is held in position.
It is preferred to make the arms 16 comspecincation of Letters' Patent. v

paratively short in length, and to provide for engagement with the cloth'v at points between these arms, intermediate members 18. These members are alsoformed ofthin metal and are providedy with prongs 19,
Smaller than the prongs 17 previously mentioned. n
The members v14 are connected by means of chains 20, one end of which is connected to a link 21. This linkis also vconnected through the medium of a exible link connection 22 with the arms 16 and end mem-Y ber'13, while the arms 16 of the oppositev member 12 are connected to one another by means of links 23. These last mentioned From the foregoing description and ac-` companying drawings it will be apparent that the members 12, 13 and 14 may be connected tothe ironing board cloth and the 'zeY latter smoothly and tightly adjusted by engaging the end of the chain 20 with one of the links 25, the resilient end of this connection permitting of shrinkage of the cloth without tearing.
The invention 1s susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minorV details of construction -and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described the invention, what is claimed is:
1. A device for holding a cloth upon an 'ironing board and comprising. end members adapted to be positioned at opposite ends of the board, inwardly extending pivoted arms carried by said end members, means carried by the end members Yand ivoted arms for engagement with the clot and means whereby the end members may bel drawn longitudinally ofthe board andthe pivoted arms moved inwardly to stretch or tighten the cloth and hold the Same in position.
2. A device for holding a cloth upon an ironing board comprising end members adapted to be positioned at opposite ends of the board, intermediate members located between the end members at the opposite side edges of the board, inwardly extending arms pivoted to the end members, means carried by all of said members and arms for engagement with the cloth and means whereby said members and arms maybe drawn inwardly to stretch or tighten the cloth and vhold the vsame'in position.
3. A device for holding a elothnpon an ironing board and comprising end members adapted to be positioned atropposite ends of the board7 inwardly extending pivoted arms Carried .by said end members, hooks carried by said end members and arms for engagement with the cloth and means whereby the end members may be drawn longitudinally of the board and the pivoted arms moved inwardly to stretch or tighten the cloth and hold the same in position. 4A devis-e for holding a cloth upon an ironing board comprising end members adapted to be positioned at the opposite ends oiQ the boardj inwardly extending pivoted arms carried by said end members,
Vinterinediate members located between the an ladjustable yielding connection with they aivoted arms of the other end member whereby said members may be drawn inwardly to stretch or tighten the cloth and hold the Ysame in position.
ln testimony whereof I ailix my signature.
