Description

Feb. 24, 1931. o. JOHNSON GRIPPING DEVICE Filed July 21, 1928 'Patented F ebi' 24, 1931 4 I I -UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application filed July 21, 1928, SerialNo. 294,405.
My invention relates to a device for grip- \euient iraeli of thethumb or finger of the ping articles, and particularly articles of a hand which grips or holds the handle 2, and soft, pliable or limp nature such as textile by which the rod 4 is arranged to beoperatfabrics, and it has more especial reference to d 1ll'h1tively to the guide in the frame 1 and a device by which articles of wear and parthe knob, hook or enlargement 5 thereof is 55 ticularly limb oriinger encasing apparel or caused trrbe moved with respect to the end portions thereof, as socks, hosiery, sleeves oi? the frame when gripping or releasing an and the like, or in fact any textile casing or R 14619, as p a n d la erl pe, may be turned inside out. In the instance of the embodiment of the n The objects of the invention are to pr invention, she '11, and for purposesoi vide a simple and inexpensive means by light con motion and. economical manufacwhich articles of wear and use may be reture, the t1 azne l cons'r. of a single )iece or versed, whether wet or dry; and to provide suitably rigid wire bent intern'iediate its a d vi f thi ch r t that i il alength toiorrn or provide an eye, which connipulated, light and will not injure the Stilt/TEES; the guide 3 heretofore mentioned 65? articles gripped thereby. The wire is thenbent upon itself at each side A preferred form of the invention is illusoi the eve 3Jand at substantially right angles trated in the accompanying drawing, fornp thereto toforinsubstantially parallel spaced ing a part of this specification, and therein frame portions 1 and 1", each of which, 29 Fig. 1 is an elevational view ot a device near the end opposite the loop end isformed b d in my i ti withan offset, as shown at 7 and 7, and the i Fig. 2 is an enlarged sectional plan view, extreme ends of which are securely contained th e tio urring on lin 2 2 Fig, 1. in the handle Through the loop or guide, Fig. 3 is a perspective View showing the de- 3 is entended for operation the rod 4, the end M i i rt d i a ar t, oi which is provided with the knob, hook, or
Fig. i is a perspective View showin the other enlargement 5. The other end of the device s agtually used in the reversal Off a, l'0(l 4:, Which 15 disposed centrally between ga merit, and the parallel. spaced frame portions 1 and 1, Fig. 5 a enlarged detail of a modified is provided with a thumb or finger engaging a -t f th devi member (twhieh in the specific form shown,

The invention consists of ably a: nicint d with the narrowed frame pora frame oi desirable length, having' at one tions 8 and 8 between the handle 2 and the fend a handle and provided with means operoilisets 7 and 7,,v.hich latter serve to limit able by the thumb or other member witl re the forward movement of the loop 4: and
speet to the opposite end thereof for gripconsequently oi the rod 4.
i an a ti l I th rticular and In practice, the handle 2 beinggrasped by chosen form illustrated in the drawin i;', the the hand oi the user, asillustrated in Figs. invention is shown as comprising: a frame 1, 3 and 4, the frame 1 of the device is inserted 40 preferably of narrow width and of a length inside a garment or other articlethat it desirable for the particular uses thereof. To desired to reverse. The loop or member 6. one end of-the frame 1 is secured or provided which is within convenient reach of the a handle 2, and the opposite end thereof is thumb or other men'iber oi? the hand holdprovided or formed with a guide 3, through ins; the device, is then operated toward the which is extended for relative movement a clients 7 and 7 causing therebv the knob. rod 4, having at one end thereof a knob, hook hoot: or enlargementfi on the end of the rod or enlargement 5 of a size relatively greater 4-, to be moved away from the eye or guide 3 than the guide 3. The other end of said rod in the end of the frame 1, as shown in Figs. l is provided with a thumb or linger engag 1 and 3. With the other hand, the user then ing member 6, that is disposed within conpressesor draws the material of the garment opening 11,- serving as by the thumb or other. member against the projected rod l between the end I of the frame 1 and the knob 5 of the rod 4. Thereupon the loop 6 is retracted causing the material of the garment to be gripped by i the head or knob 5 on the rod. By then withdrawing the frame with the material at one end of the garment gripped thereby, While the other 'end of the garment is held by the other hand, as shown in Fig. 4:, a reversal or turning inside-out of the garment is effected, be the garmentrdry or wet.
I have shown the device as especially adaptable to the reversal of textile articles, but mean no limitation thereby of theuses to which the invention may be put, it being also readily usable for gripping articles that may be immersed in hotor cold water.
In Fig. 5 I have illustrated a modified form of guide that may be employed, par' tieularly where the device needs to be of considerably heavier material. In this case, I provide a metal head9 that is preferably hollow, and provided with sockets 10 and 10, into which the respective ends of the frame portions 1 and 1" are rigidly fitted. The upper end of the head 9 is p'rovided'with an a guide for the rod 4.
WV hat I claim, is: 1 I
'1 A devieefor reversing garments comprising a'wire frame having a' handle at one end and a guide at the opposite end and formed near the rod. extended through said guide-and Provided with a knob at one end, and aloop for slidably connecting the other end to said frame, said loop arranged for engagement I to'operate said rod and cause movement of the-knob thereof relative to the end ofsaid frame to grip or release a garment, said offset onsaid frame serving to limit the movement of said 1 rod in one direction.
2. In" a device wire frame havingnapair of outwardly i bowed members, at one end'provided with a guide opening and at the'other end provided with a handle, a rod extending through said guide opening and between said members and vprovided at one end with a knob arranged for co-operation with saidguide opening to grip or release an article, and the other end of said rod bent around said frame members to connectsaid rod slidingly with said members and arranged for engagement provided with a loop encircling said frame members between the handle and the offsets thereof for slidingly associating said rod with said frame, said loop arranged for engagement by the thumb or other member to operate same.
In testimony whereof I have set my hand.
