SAMUEL OAKMAN, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
IMPROVEMENT IN FORMERS FOR SEGMENTALLY SCREW-THREADED INSULATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 132,214, dated October 15, 1872.
OAsE A.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SAMUEL OAKMAN, of
- Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Mold for Telegraphic Insulators,
. of which the following is a specification:
l The N atare of the Invention.
The nature of my invention consists in constructin g a point for forming a segment-screw inside of a telegraphic insulator, said point consistin g of a hollow tube the lower end of. which is slotted. Within this tube-a segment-screw is placed, said screw turning on its axis, so that in molding the insulator the screw-segment is at the slots in the outer tube; but whenthe molding is complete the screw-segments may be turned back within the tube and present a smooth space at the opening, thus allowing the point to be Withdrawn.
Description of the Drawing.
General Description. Let A represent the outer part of the point.
This is made as shown in the drawing, and is provided with four openings or slots, 0 O O 0. Within this tube the segment-screw bolt H is placed. This screw-bolt fits a corresponding screw within the tube A. The slots 0 O O O are cut through the tube A, as shown, and corresponding recesses E EE E, Fig. 4, planed into the center part H, so that, if the screwbolt H is turned, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the insulator molded upon the device will have within it segment-screws.
To withdraw this device from the insulator I have only to turn the bolt H to the'position shown in Figs. 2 and 4. This action will present smooth surfaces to the inwardly-projectin g screw-threads of the insulator and admit of the withdrawal of the device or point.
K is a guide-pin inserted in the screw-bolt H, and projecting through the tube, as shown, so as to serve as a stop to limit the motion of the center-piece.
I claim as my invention- The combination of the tube A with the center segment-screws H B B B B, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
SAMUEL OAKMAN.
