UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AMOS E. FINEGAN, OF MEYERSDALE, PENNSYLVANIA.
DOOR-SECURER.
SPECIFICATION forming` part of Letters Patent No. 467,589, dated January 26, 1892.. Application filed May 6, 1891l Serial No. 391,827. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AMos E. FINEGAN,a citizen of the United States, residing at Meyersdale, in the county of Somerset and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-'Securersg and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improved doorlocking brace; and it consists in the construction, arrangement, and combination of parts, more fully hereinafter described, and afterward pointed ont in the claim.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple contrivance which will securely lock coor and avoid the necessity of a key or A further object of my invention is to provide a doorsecuring device which may be easily handled and transported, adjusted to different heights, and cheaply manufactured.
I obtain these objects by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, wherein like let-ters of reference indicate corresponding parts of the several views, and in which Figure l is a perspective view of a door with my improved locking-brace in position. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the device, and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical section of the same with the arms in the casing.
In the drawings, A represents a hollow metal tube or pipe having caps B in its ends having openings C and C therein, placed eccentrically and directly opposite to each other. These openings are formed, respectively, with right and left female screw-threads.
Within the pipe I form two compart-ments D and D', divided by partition D2, and into Awhich compartments the openings lead, for
purposes hereinafter stated.
E representsa metallic rod having a pointed end and a right-hand screw-threaded butt adapted to tit in the opening C in the end of the pipe and engage with the threads thereof. The threaded butt of this rod is made somewhat larger than the rod proper, and is permetal with an enlarged screw-threaded butt f, which is adapted to fit in the opening C and mesh with the threads of the same. The outer end of this rod F is slightly bent and formed with two oppositely-extending curved prongs, which, when in position under the knob of a door, extend up on either side thereof and prevent the device from being' displaced.
When it is desired to apply the device to a door, the pointed end of the rod E is placed on the floor and the prongs of the rods F are placed under the knob. The hollow pipe or casing is then turned, forcing the rods out by virtue of the right and left hand threads, and securely fastening the device in place and locking the door. When it is desired to release the door and dispose of the device in a trunk or traveling-bag or other suitable place, it is only necessary to turn the casing or pipe in the opposite direction, drawing the rods back into the pipe, Where -they are deposited in the pockets formed by the partition. It will thus be seen that by the above construction a convenient device is produced which is especially applicable for traveling as Well as domestic purposes. l
I am aware that many minor changes may be made in the construction and arrangements of the parts of my device and substituted for those herein shown and described, without in the least departing from the nature and principle of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A door-securer consisting of a hollow cylindrical casing having right and left female threads on its opposite outer ends, a pointed rod having a threaded butt engaging in one end of the casing, and a pronged rod. having a threaded butt fitted in the opposite end of the casing, said rods constructed to tit in the hollow center of the casing beyond the threaded portion, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof l affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
AMOS E. FINEGAN. lVitnesses:
H. CLAY MOKINLEY, WM. H.. HAY.
