Be it known that l, osmrrrnn L. Home, a citizen of the United States, residing at Portland, in the county of Multnomah, and State of Uregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corsets, of
' the attachments for'connecting it have been i that chang the invention herein disclosed may be made tilt secured inlthe corset in connection with which it .isto be used and which may be raised or lowered to suit the needs of the user? With the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description roceeds, the invention resides in the com lfinationand arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood es in the precise embodiment of within the scope of what is claimed without de arting from the spirit of the invention.

Patented Nov... i, ilth.
lln the embodiment illustrated, the corset I l constituting this invention is composed of two members as is ordinary in corsets, with eyelets i along their rear edges to receive the lacing cords, and is equipped with supporters 2 for the hose, any desired number of which may be'employed, three being here shown arranged at the front of each corset section. Each of these sections is slit in wardly from itslower edge as'shown at 3, 1
the side edges of the slit being reinforced as shown at t and elastic lacings 5 securing the edges of the slit adjustably together, so that while yieldable to rovide for expansion, they may be also adjusted for this purpose.
Elastic strips 6 and '8' are secured to the upper edges of each corset section as is shown clearly in Fig. l, the outer strip 7 being longer than the inner strip 6 and which render the corset expansible to fit the size of the wearer, and to hold it snugly against bulging at its upper edge.
longitudinally disposed tapes 8 are ar-, ranged on theinner face of each corset section at the waistline as is usual in corsets, the front edges of said sections being closed by. the .usual hooks and eyes or any other suitable closing means.
A removable back section 9 is positioned between the rear ends of the two corset sections and secured in position by laces 10,
which extend through eyelets it along the side edges of the back section 9 and through the eyelets l at the rear edges of the corset sections proper. lPhis lacing connection of, this removable back section provides for its adjustable connection with the corset section, and the back section itself is preferably constructed of elastic cloth or webbing, so that it will yield peripherally of the corset but not transversely.
'lfhe bones 12 of the corsets, any desired number of which maybe employed,'are"ih sorted in the usual casings 18, stitched on the outer faces of the corset sections, and these bones have apertures it in their upper ends to receive connectors which pass through apertures in the casings l3 and in the body proper of the corset sections, and
which are designed to receive any suitable means forsecuring these parts together.
he wn in Figs. 3 and it, a piece of tape Mill which its front edge to receive connecting said strip to the their outer faces back of them,
' corset at this This insert 30 has a but may be stitched or corset lacing 15 is passed through the registering eyelets in the bone, the casing and the corset, and have knots 16 formed on to prevent disconnection, and which will hold the bones against longitudinal movement upwardly. The casings 13 preferably have double rows'of stitching arranged transversely thereacross at the lower endsof the bones 12 to prevent the bones from working downwardly.
An abdominal supporter 20 is detachably mounted inside the corset, being constructed as shown in Fig. 1 to cup under and conform to the shape of a protruding abdomen, being curved both longitudinally and pref.- erably although not necessarily trans; versely, and composed of elastic webbing is longitudinally yieldable and transversely non-yieldable The supporter proper is wider at'the center than at its ends and is provided at said ends with adjustable connectors 21 and 21 adapted for detachable connection with attaching elements 30 secured to the inner face of the corset adjacent the under arm scams or just said elements 30 being in the form of strips stitched or otherwise secured to the corset and provided with eyelets 31 for a purpose to be described. The connectors 21 and 21 each comprises a reinforcing strip 22 boned or otherwise as may be desired and provided with eyes 24: along its front edge to detachabl receive hooks 24: carried by a strip 23. T e strip 23 has eyelets 25 along its rear edge to receive a lacing 28 which adjustably connects strip 23 with has eyes 27 along. a lacing 28 whichstrip 26, which strip 26 detachably connects these two strips. Strip 26 also has another row of inwardly from these 27 and; which aredesigned to form attaching means for connecting the strip 26 to the corset-carried strip 30. The belt attaching insert 30 is secured one to each corset section, justback of the underarm seams, either 'oint and then stitchin msert along t e side edges as is s own clearly in Fig. 2, or it may be stitched directly to the inner face of the corset without slashing or otherwise secured thereto.
nallyv extending eyelets 31 to receive a lacing cord 32 which also the eyelets 29. of strip 26 this connection for the strip 26 is here shown, obviously it need not be laced in, directly to the corset if found desirable. By equipping several pairs of corsets with these attaching-strips 30, one abdominal support 20 may be used in connection with all of them, as obviously said support may be quickly detached by eyelets 29 spaced plurality of longitudipasses throughfor detachably' corset. While neaame is reinforced and stiffened transversely by stifl'eners 33, and loops 34.- are provided at its lower edge for attaching bandages or straps which may be found necessary for by first slashing the the.
2. An abdominal arm seams,
side edge and eyelets at cord adjustably connecting each section' engaged with said certain purposes. Y
Obviously, the supporter 20 may be supplied with its attaching means to any pur chaser, and .used in connection with any form of corset by stitching the strips 26 to X the corset sections just back of the under or by slashing the corset and stitching in the inserts.
Owing to this fact, a manufacturer may carry a line of supporters totally independent of the corse but obviously the corset here shown, when used in connection with the supporter illustrated, will be a much more valuable garment than an ordinary corset,.particularly for maternity wear.
he foregoing description and the drawings have reference to what may be considered the preferred or approved form of my invention. It is to be understood that I may make such changes in construction and arrangement and combination of parts, materials, dimensions, etc., as may prove expedient and fall within the scope of the claimed invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new cure by Letters Patent, is 1- 1. The combination with a corset having inserts adjacent and just'back of the underarm seams thereof and provided with longitudinally spaced eyelets, of an abdominalsupporter, and attaching means for connecting the ends of said supporter with said. inserts, each of said means comprising a strip and desire to seor section having fastening elements at one other, a lacing with one insert, said supporter having cooperating fastening elements at its ends for detachable engagement with those at one edge of said attaching means.
supporter com rising amember shaped to cup under the ab omen, adjustable attaching members detachably first-mentioned member, and means whereby said attaching members may be secured to a corset.
In a corset of the class described, two sections having an expander interposed between the back edges of said sections, the
lower-front edges having inwardly extendl ddttdllh inn" slits reinforced alon their edges and porter hoth vertically andhorizontally relaadjustahly secured toget er, elastic strips tirely to the user. 10 secured one above the other to the upper lln testimon whereof at my signature edges of said sections and extending longiin presence of tWoWitnesses. tudinally thereof, and an alodominal sup- I dUSEf-HNE lh.
