Description
S. J. AGNEW.
- TAG HOLDER.
APPLICATXON FILED AUG-I3. r919.

SAMUEL JONES AG-N'EW, OF SAN DIEGO, CALIFDRNIA.
TAG-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 4, 1919.
Application filed August 13, 1919. Serial No. 317,312.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SAMUEL J. AGNEW, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of San Diego, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented a new and Improved Tag-Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. a
This invention relates to improvements in tag holders, an object of invention being to provide a tag holder of extremely simple, inexpensive, construction, which securely holds the tag in proper position against the edge of a shelf or like support, and which has extensions strengthening the lower gripping jaw and also perfornnng the functionof limiting the movement of the tag in the tag holder.
A further object is to improve upon the construction illustrated in Patent No. 1,259,337, granted to me March 12, 1918.
. With these and other objects in view, the
invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as Will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings;
Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating my improved tag holder attached to a shelf.
Fig. 2 is a View in longitudinal section through the holder and'shelf.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the tag holder.
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the blank from which a tag holder is. made.
Referring particularly to Fig. 4:, 1 represents a sheet metal blank of general oblong shape having extensions 2, 2 at its longitudinal edges extending from one end of the blank to a point about one-third distance removed from the opposite end of the blank.
copies of this patent may be obtained tor The blank is provided with longitudinal fold lines 3, 3, at the points of juncture of the extensions and the main portion of the blank, and the blank is also provided with fold lines 4 and 5 so that when the blank is folded or bent on the lines indicated, upper and lower gripping jaws 6 and 7 will be provided to engage a shelf 10 and locate a tag receiving face 8 at the edge of the shelf.
It is to be understood that no fold depression is made in the blank and the fold lines are indicated merely to show where the bending or folding action takes place.
The extensions 2, 2, are folded inwardly against the outer faces of the jaw 7 and the tag holding portion 8, and serve the double purpose of strengthening the lower jaw 7 and also confining the edges of a tag 9. As the extensions extend around the bend of the blank indicated by the fold line 5, they will serve as stops to limit the downward movement of the tag and hold the latter in proper position.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
A tag holder, comprising a tag holding intermediate portion, and clamplng jaws projecting at an angle to the tag holding portion and adapted to grip a shelf between them, integral extensions at the edges of the tag holding portion and the lower jaw, said extensions projecting inwardly, reinforcing the lower jaw and operating as a housing for the ends of the tag on the intermediate portion, said extensions on the intermediate portion and the lower jaw limiting the downward movement of the tag.
