Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, BALESLAVAS STELNO- NIS, a citizen of Russia, and residin at Peacock, in the county of Lake and tate of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stretchers,of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in dievices for carrying sick or wounded peop e.

The principal object of the invention is to provide a harness-like device which may be readily secured .to the body of the porter, the same being provided with hooks engageable within the clothing of the person or object to be carried, in such fashion as to support the body in a secure manner.

A further object is to provide such means in forms which may be closely folded into small compass so as to present no objection regarding the transportation or carrying of the same, and which may be extended for use in a moments time.

These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described, and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view indicating the application of the invention.

Fig. 3 is a further enlarged perspective showing one of the hook or engaging elements carried at the end of the harness.

The harness or carrier comprises a flexible strap formed into a loop 10, adapted to pass over one of the shoulders of the porter, one of the side elements 11 assing over the back, while the opposi-tdly disposed strap element 12 crosses at the breast, the two parts being secured together at their point of intersection 14 by rivets or like securing means 15.

Engaged by other rivets 16 is a strap 17, containing a plurality of perforations 18, adapted to engage with the buckle 19, secured at the end of the strap 20, fixed. to the main strap element 12, by rivets 21. The two

17 and 20 form. a belt-like device encirclmg the waist of the porter.

A continuation 22 of the strap element 11 and a similar continuation 24. of the strap element 12, are engaged between pairs of forks 25, and held therein by screw bolts 26, the forks 25 being formed with curved rods 28 bent downwardly to the loop 29, and then upwardly terminating in double spurs 30, formed in the manner of a fish hook, and adapted to be inserted in the clothing of a person, as plainly shown in Fig. 1.

This can best be accomplished when the person to be carried is in a recumbent position upon the ground, the porter kneeling closely adjacent and fixing the spurs 30 in the garment of the injured person, then securing the strap 17 in the buckle of the strap 20, and then, upon rising, the injured person is supported upon the back of the porter in an effective manner.

From the foregoing it will be seen that a light and effective harness has been presented whereby one person is enabled to carry another in an easy and convenient manner, without impeding the limbs of the porter in any way whatever.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is j A one-man carrier for wounded, comprising a looped flexible strap adapted to be passed over one of the shoulders of the bearer, the ends of said strap after forming the loop riveted together at their point of intersection, a buckle and strap arrangement forming a belt-like device adapted to encircle the waist of the bearer, and secured with its inner ends to said strap above the point of intersection, a pair of forked elements between the forks of one of which one end of said looped strap is secured, the other end of said strap being secured between the forks of the other of said elements and a curved rod at the end of each of said forked elements, each of said rods terminating in a fish-hook adapted to engage the cloth of a wounded persons dress.
