CARRIER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 8, 1919.
Application filed November 12, 1918. Serial No. 262,136. 1
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J USEF KRAUz, a subject of the Emperor of Austria, residing at Franklin, county of Merrimack and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carriers, of which the following is a specification.
, This invention relatesto improvements in carriers, particularly adapted to convey the wounded from a battlefield or from place to place, as may be desired.
The principal object of the invention is to provide an exceedingly flexible, strong, and comfortable carrier of the class described, which is capable of being compactly folded into a small parcel when not required for use.
A further object is to provide a carrier in which a wounded or sick person may be conveniently transported upon the back of another without discomfort to either, and With- 7 out impeding the natural actions of the carrier in any Way.
These and other like objects are obtained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described, and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a ma terial part of this disclosure, and in which Figure 1 is a side elevational View indicating the application of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view showing the carrier extended for use, and
Fig. 3 is a front elevational view of the same.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 10 designates the carrier and 11 the party carried, the latter resting in a concave, basketlike receptacle 14 preferably formed of canvas or like strong textile fabric. To the upper edge of the receptacle 14 at the front and midway of the same are secured the straps 15 and 16 respectively, the front strap 15 being provided with a buckle 17 the tongue of which engages within perforations 18 formed in the opposite strap, therefore permitting the straps to be secured over the a breast of the carrier 10. The central strap 16 is unbroken in its length and like the straps 15 is securely attached at its ends to copies or this patent may be obtained for the sides of the basket 14. A pair of rear straps 20 are similarly engaged with the margins of the basket and are secured by stitchings or other means tothe uppermost portion of the center strap 16 and at 22 adjacent to the ends of the front straps 15 the straps thus passing over the shoulders of the carrier in an obvious manner.
In operation the party to be carried is seated within the basket 1 1, after which the attendant places his arms, through the openings or spaces between the front and center straps l5 and 16 and engages the buckle 17 with the end of the strap in front of his breast, thereby supporting the carrier in such manner as to be easily carried and Without discomfort to either person. In view of the extreme flexibility of the structure no shock or jar of any consequence is transmitted to the carrier, and obviously there are no parts to interfere with either the upper or lower limbs of either party.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the device is capable of being very compactibly folded, all of its parts being extremely pliable and in which the wounded may be transported from place to place in any desired manner.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A carrier for use by ambulance attendants for carrying wounded soldiers, comprising a bowl-shaped seat of textile material, a pair of front straps attached with their lower ends in spaced relation to the front part of said seat, a buckle connection for the upper ends of said straps in front of the attendants chest, a strap attached to said seat at oppositely disposed points behind said front straps, adapted to be placed upon the neck of the attendant, and a pair of shoulder straps engaged in close proximity at the rear part of the seat and connected with their other ends to the front straps in proximity to the ends thereof.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
J USEF KRAUZ.
