Application July 11, 1934, set-n1 No. 135,703
4 Claims.
The invention consists in a new and useful improvement in portable seats and is designed more particularly to provide a carrying seat for infants which may be slung from the shoulder of the carrier and'in which the infant may ride safely and comfortably as the carrier walks, the weight being sustained from the shoulder and against the hip of the carrier when walking or standing, the whole device being shiftable so that the seat may be brought on to the lap of the carrier when seated, and the infant may be held, in the lap, in the natural way, without being removed from the seat. The particularly novel and useful feature of this invention is the the device against collapse when in use and secure the infant against any pressure from the device, and the relation of the parts of this frame to the carrying straps. so that when the device is positioned upon the hip of the carrier, the straps being adjusted over the shoulder, the front strap is so disposed as to obviate any pressure upon the breast of the carrier, a most desirable consideration in the case of a nursing 25 mother.
While there has been illustrated in the drawings filed herewith and there has been hereinafter fully described one specific embodiment of this invention, it is to be distinctly understood that the invention is not considered to be limited to said specific embodiment, but reference as to its scope is made to the claims appended hereto.-
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a general perspective view showing the device supporting the child on the hip of the carrier. I
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the device.
Fig. 3 is a vertical section on line 3-4 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a vertical section on line H of Fig. 2.
As illustrated in the drawings, the device comprises a U-shaped frame element I made of any suitable inflexible material such as a steel bar, I having the arms 2 and l of unequal length. The shorter arm 2 on the side of the device which is placed nearer to the body of the carrier is provided with suitable padding 4 and the entire element I is covered by a tubular casing I of any suitable soft and durablematerial such as leather,
the portion 5a of said casing 5 which covers the arm 2 being made of proper dimensions to en'- close the padding 4. There is provided a suitable receptacle 6, made of any suitable flexible 55 and durable material such as cotton webbing or provision of a rigid frame for the seat to insure the like. This is'suitably designed to form a basket-like seat suspended from the frame I by loops I, and has in its bottom a removable cushion 8. On the this receptacle front, between the arms 2 and 3, 6 has the leg holes 9, 9, below which are the upstanding edges III, III to secure the cushion B.
To the end of the arm 2, there is attached a buckle II and at the proper point on the arm 3, directly opposite, there is attached a buckle I2.
Straps I3 and II, from the ends of the front section I5 of the receptacle 6, between the holes 9, 9,
may be engaged in the buckles II and I2, respectively.
There is provided the oval shoulder cap I8 provided on its edges and across its middle with the strengthening bands II, and at its rear edge with the carrying strap I8 received in a buckle I9 disposed at the rear end of the arm 2.
There is provided a carrying strap having one of its ends received in the buckle 2I on the front edges of the shoulder cap I6, and having its other end provided with a snap-hook 22 received in a hole 23 at the extreme end' of the longer arm 3 of the frame I.
It is to beparticularly noted that by making the arm 3 of theframe I longer than the arm 2, and positioning the hookv 22 of the strap 20 in hole 23 at the extreme outer end of this longer arm .3, the strap 20 is so disposed between the shoulder of the carrier and the outer edge of the device, that the strap 20 is carried forwardly and away from the breast of the carrier to obviate pressure thereon, when the seat is at the side or front of the person.
It is also to fact that the s be noted that by reason of the eat 8 is removably related to the frame I by means of the loops 1, it is possible to reverse the device by turning the frame I and reversing the seat 6, so that the device may be adjusted upon By a re-arrangement of the straps I8 and 20,
the other hip of the carrier.
the device may be adjusted so that the seat is positioned in front of the carrier, making it easy to rest it in the 'lap when the carrier is seated.
This invention having been described, there is claimed:
1. In a portable seat, the combination of a U-shaped frame having arms of unequal length; a flexible seat member suspended from said frame; a strap attached to the outer end of the straps. v 2. In a port able seat, the of a frame having two arms of unequal length; a seat member suspended from said frame; and a carrying member having one end attached to the outer end 01 the longer arm, and its other end attached to the inner end of the shorter arm.
3. In a portable seat, the combination of a frame having two arms of unequal length; a seat ,member suspended from said frame; a carrying member having one end attached to the outer end of the longer arm of the frame; a second carrying member having one end attached to the inner end of the shorter arm of the frame; and means adapted to connect the other ends of the two carrying members.
4. In a portable seat. the combination of a frame comprising a single rod having two bends to form two parallel sides and a back for the seat; aflexible seat member suspended from said rod; a carrying member attached to the outer end of one of the sides; a second carrying mem-. ber attached to the inner end of the other side; and means adapted to connect the said members.
