To all whom it may 00 ncern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE ARNOLD, a sub-. ject of the King of England, residing at .Rosemont, in the city of Montreal, Province of Quebec, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blank for Envelope of Two Sizes; and I do hereby declare the following to beia full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in envelope and consists essentially in the provision of a blank so out that the same may be folded and formed into envelops of two distinct sizes.

The invention comprises a simple and eflicient device of this character having various details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically described in the appended claim.

My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application, and in which:

l designates a blank having four flaps, designated respectively by numerals 2, 3, 4: and 5, the said flap 2 being the top fia-p and which is provided with elongated slits 6 disposed at an inclination to'the length of the envelop. The top and end flaps are provided with a gummed surface 7 of adhesive material. The flap 4 is also provided with a gummed surface 8 and is slit as at 9 for the purpose of forming a small sized envelop, as illustrated in Fig. 8 of the drawings, but has no function when the blank is folded to form the envelop shown in Fig, 10.

In folding the flaps of the blank, shown in Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive of the drawings, the top and bottom flaps are first folded, as shown in Fig. 2, after which the end flaps are folded with their tapering ends inserted in the slots 6, and bymoistening the adhesivesurfaces the flaps may be sealed as will be readily understood.

When it is desired to fold the flap to form a small envelop shown in Fig. 9 of the drawings, the end flap 5 is folded over the face of the blank in the manner shown in Fig. 5, after which the blank is folded along the transverse line 11 and the next step in the formation of the envelop consists of folding the doubled flap 4, which has two winged portions 12 and 13, up against the double folded portion of the blank into the position shown in Figs. 7 and 8 of the drawings, after which the top double folded portion 2 is bent down in the manner shown in Fig. 8, with one wing 12 underneath the double folded flap 2, while the flap 13 passes be tween the double folds of the flap 2. The last flap 3 to be folded is then inserted through the slot 6 in the manner shown in Figs. 8 and 9 of the drawings, and the adhesive coating upon the flaps moistened, as well as the adhesive surface 8 adjacent to the slit 9, thus securely sealing the small size envelop, it being understood that the letter is inserted in the envelop before the flap 3 is folded and sealed.

By the provision of an envelop embodying the features of my invention. it will be noted that a simple and efficient means is afforded whereby the blank may be folded to form either a large or a small size envelop, as may be desired for various purposes.

What I claim to be new is:

A blank ofipaper adapted to be folded to fornrtwo sizes of envelops, consisting of a sheet of paper, having an angled outlined top and end fiaps,said top flaphaving slots parallel with the inclined edges, and the bottom flap having a central slitted portion, one end flap adapted to be folded agains. the face of the blank, and the latter thence 10 folded centrally along the slitted line forming double folds tothe top; and bottom flaps Copies of this patent inay lie obtained for five cents each, by addressing the which are folded over each other, one of the wings formed by slitting the bottom flap adapted to be inserted between the double folds of the top flap and the other underneath the tWo folds of the top flap, and the remaining end flap inserted in one of the slots in the top flap, flaps having adhesive material to seal the parts folded together.
