' a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Envelops, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to new and useful improvements in envelops, which are folded froma single blank of paper upon the inside ofV which a letter may be written, then the paper foldedand sealed to form an'envelop embodying the essentials of durability, inexpensiveness to manufacture and efficiency in practice. An important object of my invention is to provide a device of the above mentioned character having a window therein, which is arranged to surround the name and address of the addressee, when the blank is folded and sealed to form the envelop; 'and means whereby the window will be held securely around the name and address of the addressee to retain the contents of the letter intact during transportation of the same,

and at the same time the letter may be vreadily opened by the addressee regardless of the retaining feature.

Other objects and advantages of my invention will be apparent during the following description.

In the accompanying drawings forming a part of the description and wherein like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,

Figure 1 is a plan view of the inside of the blank before being folded.

In the drawings wherein is shown a pre-l ferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1, designates a single blank of paper which has the marginal edges of one side 2, and half the top 3, and bottom 4, removed therefrom. Adjacent the top edge 3, upon the inside ofthe blank 1, I provide a space for the name and address of the addressee which is surrounded by the dotted lines 5. The' other half of the'blank 1, is then left 'with the marginal side 6 and one half of the' marginal top edge 7, and bottom edge 8. A l1ne o f perforations 9, extends parallel to the margln 7, and is spaced from the marginal edge the same distance as the distance from the edge 3 to the margin 7. This line of perforations extends the entire length of the marginal edge 7. Similar lines of perforations 10 and 11 are provided in the marginal edges 6 and 8 respectively. All the marginal edges 6, 7 and 8 are gummed for a purpose which will presently appear. In this side of the blank adjacent the top margin 7, is an opening or window 12 which is cut fromthe blank 1, and adapted to surround the dotted area 5 on the opposite side of the blank, when the blank has been folded along its longitudinal axis 13. ' gummed for a purpose which will presently appear.

The'name and address of the addressee is adapted to be written on the blank, surrounded by the dotted line 5, and the body of the letter is to be written upon the blank below the window 12, and the dotted lines 5. After the letter has been completed the gummed edge around the window 12 is moistened and the blank is folded along the longitudinal aXis 13, so that the gummed marginal edge ofthe window will stick around the dotted line 5, and the name and address of the addressee. By gumming the marginal edges of the window, the addressees name and address will always be positioned correctly in the window and thevmarginal edges of the window will bev prevented from overlying the said address. The gummed marginal edges 6 and 8 are then moistened and folded along the perforations 10 and 11, to embrace the lower portion 16 along the margin 8.

After folding the blank in the manner set forth it will be apparent that the name and address of the addressee will be clearly visible through the Window 12.

It is to be understood that the form of my invention herein shown and described is to be taken as-a preferred embodiment of the same and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.

Having described my invention I claim:

1. An envelop comprising a blank, adapted to be folded first upon itself upon its longitudinal axis then aga-in upon itself upon the transverse axis of the folded blank pro-- vided by the longitudinal fold, said blank having one of its entire longitudinal marginal edges and one half of its transverse top and bottom marginal edges cut away parallel to their respective opposite marginal. edges, and the remaining longitudinal marginal edge and transverse top and bottom edge being gununed and provided with' lines of perforations extending the entire lengthv of said edges, whereby the gummed longitudinal marginal edge is folded and adhered to the back of its opposite edge, and the transverse bottom guml'ned edge is folded and adhered to the back of this adjacent edge of the blank when the blank is first folded upon its longitudinal axis, while tho transverse top marginal gummed edge is adhered to the front of the opposite portion of the transverse bottom edge after the blank has been folded again upon its transverse axis.

2. A blank adapted to be folded in half upon itself, one half of said blank being provided With an addressee space, the other half of said blank being provided With an opening to surround the addressee space when the envelop is folded, the inside marginal edges 4of said opening being gurnined to adhere to the first mentioned half of the blank and around the said addressee space when the said first mentioned half is folded'upon the last mentioned half, to prevent unauthorized opening of the envelop and a. line of perforations extending around said opening in spaced relation thereto whereby the halves of the envelop may be separated by severing the gummed edges of the second named half therefrom.
