Specification of Letters Patent.

Nova Scotia, Canada, have invented certain.
new and useful Improvements in Envelope, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to envelops, and the primary object of my invention is to provide an envelop that can be advantageously' used for transmitting money and valuable matter through the mail or by ex press, the envelop bcing constructed whereby it cannot be surreptitiously opened or tampered with without detection.
A further object of* this. invention is to provide an envelop of the above type made of n'single piece of material, the envelop being inexpensive to manufacture and highly etlicient for the purposes for which it is intended.
I attain the above objects by a mechanical construction that will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed, and reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein like numerals denote corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which Figure 1 is n perspective view of the envelop partially foldedand partially sealed, Fig. 2 is a similar view of a portion of the envelop illustrating themanner of scaling the bottom flap and the end flap of the envelop, Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view of the envelop as sealed, Fig. 4 is a plan of the envelop partially closed, Fig. 5 is a plan of the envelop closed and sealed, and Fig. 6 is a plan of the envelop blank.
An envelop in accordance with this invention comprises a rectangular body 1. The lower edge of the body 1 has a bottom flap 3 adapted to be folded upon the body on the dash line 4. The bottom flap 3 has a central longitudinal slit or slot 5 and an integral strap 6 that is provided with a triangular shaped head 7 of a greater width than the strap 6. The bottom flap 3 has angularly disposed edges 8 provided with equally Spaced dove-tailed tongues 9, the
object of which will presently appeal. The
ends of the body 1 have end flaps 10 adapted to be folded upon the dash lines 11. The end flaps 10 have angularly disposed edges '12 alining with the angularly disposed edges 8 of the bottom flap 3, when the envelop-is in blank form. The angularly disposed cdges 12 of the end flaps 10 have dovetailed tongues 13, T he upper edges of the "end [tops 10 have auxiliary flaps 14. The
upper edge of the body 1 has a sealing Hop adapted to be folded upon the dash line 16, and at the fold of said flap ther is a longitudinal slit or slot 17. The flap 15 has a central longitudinal slit or slot 18 and the end of the finp terminates in a triangular-shaped head 19.
To fold the blank shown in Fig. 6, the bottom flap 3 is first folded upon the dash line 4. The end flaps 10 are then folded inwardly upon the dash lines 11 and the tongues 13 of the end flaps 10 extend under the singularly disposed edges 8 of the bottom flap 8, while the tongues 9 of the bottom flap 8 extend under the angularly dis posed edges 12 of the end flaps 10. The tongues 9 and 13 are provided with adhesive material or gum, as at 20, whereby the tongues will adhere to said 'Btrups.
The auxiliary flaps 14 of the end ups 10 are then folded inwardly, as best shown in Fig. 3, these are also gummed to adhere to the inner side of the bottom flap 3. The envelop is now in condition to receive the letter or other matter to be transmitted a d the samehaving been placed therein, t e sealing flap 15 is folded upon the dash line 16, but before folding said flap, the strap 6 is carried through the slit or slot 17, as shown in Fig. 4. The sealing flap 15 is gun'imed or adhesively coated, as at 21 and is Secured to the outer side of the bottom flap 3. The triangular shaped head 19 is also gummed and is inserted-in the slit or slot 5 of the flap 3. The strap 6 is then carried completely around the envelop, as best shown in Figs. 3 and 5, and the triangular shaped head 7, which is gummed, is inserted in the slit or slot 18 of the sealing flap 15. The envelop is then closed and sealed as illustrated in Fig. and it is impossible for the contents thereof to be surreptitiously removed without detection. v
The envelop can be made of ordinary paper, pnpcroid or other durable material and of various sizes.
What I claim is:--
An envelop comprisin a body portion provided with a bottom up having its end edges formed with spaced tongues, end flaps projecting from the body portion and provided with spaced tongues, the tongues of the enfl flaps extending under and secured to the end edges of the bottom flap and the tongues of the bottom flap extending under and secured to the end flaps, the tongues on each member being of dove-tail shape Wherehy wheninterlocked, said tongues will retain their position relative to each other, inwardly foldable auxiliary flaps carried by the end flaps and adapted to be secnred to
