COLLAR-BUTTON.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 2, 1919.
Application filed December 21. 1918. Serial No. 267.764.
To-all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, FRIEDRICH OTTO VON- TOBEL, a citizen of Switzerland, residin at New York, in the county and State of l. ew York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collar-Buttons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to collar buttons, and has for its object to produce such a device that can be cheaply and easily made; that can be easily secured in the collar band of the shirt, and to which the collar may be readily applied.
Other objects are to provide a collar button that will have means whereby the collar may be retained securely in place without danger of displacement; that will have means whereby the collar will be held in place without liability to accidentally become detached from the button, but which will be retained thereon until purposely removed; to form the button so that it will present no obstacle to the easy movement of a necktie in the collar when tying or otherwise; and finally, to so construct the button that it will rest easily against the person of the user when in use, and Without tending to displace the collar or any portion thereof from its proper position.
These and other objects of my invention are set forth in the following specification and shown in the accompanying drawing which forms a part thereof, the particular features of novelty which constitute my invention being pointed out in the claims at the end thereof.
In the drawings Figure 1, is a perspective View of a top of a shirt and collar, showing my invention as applied thereto;
Fig. 2 is a fragmental sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a fragmental perspective view illustrating the method of inserting my collar button in the button hole of a collar; and
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the collar button separately.
Referring to the drawings, 10 indicates the upper portion of a shirt, and 11 a collar band thereof; 12 represents a collar. All the above parts may be of a conventional or any desired form or shape. The
collar band is provided with the usual but- 1 ton hole 13 through which the neck of the collar button passes.
My improved collar button consists of a band 1-1, which is shaped to fit the neck of a user, of a constricted neck piece 15, and with a head 16, an upwardly projecting transverse rib 17 being positioned at the end of the neck 15 and projecting in an upward position from the neck 16 so that the top surface of the neck 15 presents a seat in which the upper portion of the collar band 11, and the end tabs l818"rest and are securely held in place therein by the rib 17, so that they cannot he accidentally displaced therefrom. The head 16 is provided with lateral wings 19 and 20, which extend outwardly from the head a sufficient distance so that the wings from end to end are wider than the button holes 21 of the collar with which they are to engage, so that the collar when once buttoned and in place upon the neck 15, is held thereon against accidental displacement and until purposely removed therefrom.
In inserting the head 16 through a button hole 21, a collar as shown in Fig. 3 may be inclined somewhat with respect to the head 16, so that one wing and the point 22 of a head may first be inserted in the button hole, this being permitted as the distance between said point and the end of either wing is less than the length of the button hole. The collar is then turned so that the other wing may easily pass into the button hole, and when the collar is in place upon the neck 15, the two wings extending beyond the ends of the button hole will hold the collar in place upon the neck 15 as above described.
My improved collar button is so formed that the band and head thereof extend in opposite directions in planes parallel with each other, the band and head being separated from each other only a suflicient dis-- tance to properly accommodate the thickness of the shirt collar band, and of the collar, the band of the collar button resting upon the neck, and the latter holds the parts in such a position that no pressure of the collar or necktie used therewith will materially change the position of the collar button, orcause undue or annoying pres- 7 projecting 'rectangularly therefrom and 'prosure upon the neck, cfthe iseglor cause the V alisbu pn o ss m l nde i ab p tion.
