ANTIREFILLAJBLE BOTTLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 22, 1919.
Application filed September 18, 1916. Serial No. 120,767.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, ALBERT W. LONG- AKER, VICTOR E. TRAGER, and RINGVALL P. RoRDAM, citizensof the United States, and residents of Burrwood, in the parish of Plaquemine and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and-useful Improvements in Antirefillable Bottles, following is a specification;
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements inanti-refillable bottles and has particular reference to an improved type of non-refillable bottle having a combination of elements related to prevent unauthorized refilling of a bottle.
ur invention contemplates the provision of a frangible neck and a valve combined and coacting to prevent refilling of a bottle after once emptied and to detect any attempt at refilling.
An object of our invention together with the foregoing is to provide a non-refillable bottle of the class described which is simple in construction, effective in operation and cheap to manufacture, none of the parts employed being subject to any chemical action by the contents of the bottle.
Other objects and advantages to be derived from the use of our improved antirefillable bottle will appear from the following detail description and the claim, taken with an inspection of the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary side elevational view of a non-refillable bottle embodying the improvements of our invention;
Fig. 2 is a similar view, the neck portion thereof being shown in vertical section; and
of which the Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken,
on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1 looking in the direction of the arrow.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, wherein similar characters of reference designate like and corresponding parts throughout the various views, 1 designates the body of a bottle and 2 the neck extending therefrom.
The bore of the neck is designated 3 and is provided with a tapering portion 4 forming a valve seat, a porcelain or similar valve member 5 being arranged for movement therein.
The bore 3 is provided, at the upper extremity of the tapered portion 4, with an annular groove 6 adapted to receive a plate 7 formed with perforations 8. The plate is adapted to be placed within the neck when the latter is molten. A plug closure of any conventional form designated 9 is adapted to be inserted into the neck 2 above the disk or plate 7. The upper end of the neck is closed as at 10 and formed with tongue extension 11, said extension being provided with a name plate portion 12 on which the seal or name of the bottling concern may be placed. An annular groove 13 is provided on the external face of the neck 2 at which point the upper portion of the neck is broken off when emptying the bottle. The upper end of the valve 5 is rounded as at 14: to prevent the same from closing communication through the plate 7 The operation of our improved non-refillable bottle should be clear from the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, and it will be seen that refilling of the bottle after one emptying is practically impossible when using our improved non-refillable bottle. It will be apparent that it is unnecessary to apply any detachable elements for use in connection with our improved bottle and it will be seen that the plate 7 if desired may be made of some material other than metal so as to prevent chemical action thereon by the contents of the bottle. It is to be understood, of course, that while a specific structure and arrangement of parts has been shown we do not imit ourselve to this showing but reserve the right to make such changes therein as do not depart from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
In a non-refillable bottle, the combination wlth a body having an elongated neck and closed at the outer end by an integral dome, I
said neck being provided with a valve seat tween the guard and the dome adapted to re at its inner end, an external groove near its ceive a stopper.
