JOSEPH B. BROLASKI, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN FOLDING CRIBS AND CRADLES COMBINED.
' Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 131,049 dated September 3, 1872.
Specification describing a new and useful Improvement in Combined Folding Crib and Cradle, invented by J osEPH B. BRoLAsKI, of
- St. Louis, in the county of St. Louis and State of Missouri.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is an end view of my improved folding crib adjustedA as a cradle. Fig. 2 is a detail vertical cross-section of the same taken through the line a, Fig. 3. Fig. 3 is a side view of the same. Fig. 4 is a top view of a part of the same folded. Fig. 5 is a bottom view of a part of the same folded.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish an improved combined crib and cradle which shall be so constructed as to adapt it for use as a crib or cradle, and which, when not in use, may be folded into small compass, so that it may be rolled under the bed, stood on one end at the end of the bedstead, againsta wall, or in a closet, and which shall at the same time be light and strong; and it consists in the construction and combination of the various parts, as hereinafter more fully described.
A is the main frame of the crib, with which the other parts are connected, and which is designed to contain the bedding. To the lower edge of the frame A are dovetailed or otherwise secured the slats B upon which the bedding is laid. To the vupper edges of the side and end bars of the frame A are hinged the side guards C and the end guards D, so that they may be turned down into a horizontal position within the frame A or upon the bedding within said frame when' not required for use,.and turned up into a vert-ical position when required for use. One of the side guards C is connected with the upper edge of the frame A by a double-jointed hinge or connection, so that it may be turned down into a horizontal position within the frame A, turned up into a vertical position, and turned down into a vertical position upon the outer side of the frame A, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2. This construction enables the inner side guard C, when the crib is set at the side of the bedstead, to be turned down out of the way, giv ing the mother convenient access to the child- When in this position the crib is secured to the bedstead by hooks E, which are designed to behooked over the side rails of said bedstead.
and 3. G are the legs, the upper ends of which are hinged to the lower edge of the frame A, at or near its corners, so that they can be turned down into a horizontal position upon the under side of the frame A. The legs G upon each side are rigidly connected by a longitudinal bar, H, as shown in Fig. 3. I is a cross-bar, one end of which is pivoted to one of the longitudinal bars H, and its other end is notched or grooved to fit upon the other longitudinal bar H, to hold the legs G in position when extended. Upon the outer sides of the legs G, are secured caster-Wheels J, so that when the crib is folded it may be conveniently rolled from place to place. K are the rockers, upon the inner sides of which are secured sockets or keepers L, to receive the lower ends of the legs Gwhen it is desired to use the said crib as a cradle. When the crib is folded the rockers L may be laid upon the bedding and the guards C D folded.` down upon them.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent The. main frame A, combined with hinged side and rear guards C D and hinged legs G, the said guards folding upon and the said legs folding under the said frame, as and for the .purpose described.
