"lhi-a i rention re rt a to lump construction and with regard to the more specific l'eaturesthereof to supporting devices for the, parts of electric lamps. ne ol the objects thereof is'to provide prataical and secure means for supporting certain parts of lamp. Another object is to provide an electric lamp construction which will be simple, compact and inexpensive and yet, reliable inaction and convenient in manipulalion. Other objects will be in part obvious and in part pointed out hereinatler.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations oil elements and arrangement of parts which will be exeu'iplitled in the structure herein-- a't'ter described and the scope of the application of which will be indicated in the following claims.

Unless thes lingers are restrained, lmwever, the lamp shade may be snapped into or out ol position as the lingers readily yield to permit such action.

These members are preferably formed of porcelain and interlock one with another as at .21. Suitable cmidurtors are led from contacts- 22 and :2?) respeclively and pass upwardly through the nipple 1 to any desired source of current. Al- .though the socket here shown is of the twopart type, certain of the 'lealures of this in veution are independent of the type .ol socket employed and it is to be understood that the term socket is broadly used to denote any device of this general nature.

In the use of the device, the socket is assembled in a shell or casing 3 and is securely held in position by turning upwardly within the same the collar 26 which firmly engages the shoulder 27. The lamp bulb 28 may then be inserted and removed as desired. The shade issnapped within the spring fingers with the clamping collar withdrawn upwardly and the latter is then turned downwardly upon this same threaded portion 6 of the shell and securely locks the spring fingers about the lip of the lamp shade. I claimas my invention: 1. In construction of the class described,
to make connection with and support said shade, socket fitted within said member, If bushing threaded within said member and supporting said socket therein and a shade-locking device threaded on the outer surface of said member.
2. In construction of the class described, in combination, a socket formed of two separable parts, a member fitted about both parts of said socket, means comprising a member threaded upon the outer surface of said first member adapted to support a shade, and a locking member threaded on the inner surface thereof adapted to extend below and to secure said socket.
3. In construction of the class described, in combination, a socket formed of two separable parts, a member fitted about both parts of said socket, means comprising a member threaded upon the outer surface of said first member adapted to support a shade, anda locking member threaded on the inner surface thereof adapted to extend below and to secure'said socket, said first mem her being formed of sheet metal and bodily shaped to provide the threads with which said second and thirdmembers coact.

In construction of the class described, in combination, a member having a resilient lower portion adapted to interlock with the lip of a shade, a socket formed of two sepa-- rable parts both of which are incased'by said member, said member being formed of sheet metal and having threads b'odily formed therein, a bushing coacting with the inner surfaces of said threads to support said socket in position, and a member coacting with the outer surface of said threads adapted to lock said resilient parts in interlocking position.
5. In construction of the class described,
in combination, amember having a resilient lower portion adapted to interlock with the lip of-a shade, a socket, said member being formed of sheet metal and having threads bodily formed therein, a bushing coacting with the inner surfaces of saidmthreads to ifiupport said socket in position, and a mem- "ber coacting with the outer surface of said threads adapted to lock said resilient parts in interlocking position. 1

In construction of the class described, in combination, a socketcomposed of two separable parts, a member formed of sheet metal for closely incasing and holding in position said two parts and provided with an outer thread and with resilient gripping fingers at its lower end, and a device threaded upon the outer surface of said member and provided with an inclined surface adapted to engage said fingers and lock them into interlocking relation with a shade.
7. In construction of the class described, in combination, a socket incasing member formed of sheet metal provided with an, outer thread and with resilient grippingfingers at its lower end, a device threaded upon the outer surface of sai .member and provided with an inclined si ace adapted to engage said. fingers and lock them in interlocking relation with a shade, a socket composed of two relatively separable parts fitted within said first member, and a threaded bushing threaded within said first member and extending below said socket and adapted to support it in position.
8. Iii construction of the class described, in combination, a socket fornied of a plurality of separable parts, a member fitted about two parts of said socket, means comprising a member threaded upon the outer surface of said first member adapted to support a shade, and a locking member threaded.

10. In construction of the class described,
in combination, a member having a resilient lower portion adapted to interlock with the lip of a shade, a socket, said member having internal amlexternal threads, a bushing coacting with the nner threads to support said socket in position, and a member coacting with the outer threads adapted to lock said resilient parts in interlocking position.
