p HOLDER.
Application filed m 19,
To all nflzom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Cir-menus P. a citizen oi" the United States, residing at lllaterlnugv, in the county of New lilaven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in fi hade Holders, of which the following a specification, reference being had there in to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a shade holder to be attached to an electrical lamp socket or the like,
It is the object of this invention, among other things, to provide a simple and inexpensive shade holder that may be readily attached and detached to a lamp socket and will have a firm and fixed connection therewith, and will, with the conventional form of lamp socket, hold the parts thereof together against accidental displacement or separation.
To these, and other ends,my invention consists in the shade holder, having certain details of construction and combinal'ions of parts, as will be hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out shade holder, illustrated as applied to an electric lamp socket;
.lllguro 2 is an enlarged sectional view of the ring); member thereof and a portion ot the lamp socket; and
Figure 3 is an enlarged sectional view oi: the ring member, taken generally upon line 3'3 of Figure 1.
As shown herein the improved shade holder is constructed preferably with a ring member 10, head member 11 and arms 12, which may be secured in any preferred manner. This form of shade holder, how ever, is illustrated merely for the purpose of showing one type thereof. Any other form, type or structure of shade holder or similar mechanism may be applied to the ring 10' within my invention, as may be desirable, for instance, if the lamp socket is to occupy a substantially horizontal rather than a vertical position.
The lamp socket illustrated 1n the draw ings is of the ordinary or conventional type, having a body member 13, with a reduced r1 ravioli, I
together by projecting having 19%. Serial No. name.
portion 17 and a shoulder 18, and a up memberl zl. having; an enlarged collar 15 at one end. 1
These two membersare usually secured the bodymember 13 into the open end 01 the cap member 14 at the collar 15.
A push plug; 16 provides the means to turn on and off the current in the lamp socket. it. turn button may be substituted for the push plug, as is usual.
The ring; 10 has an inwardly turned flange 19 at one end and an enlarged collar Q0 at the other end, which is formed with a plurality oi spring fingers 26, separated by the longitudinal slots 21. The outer ends of each of these fingers has an inwardly turned lip 22 and an outwardly flaring tip The flange 19 is preferably but not neces sarily curved to conform with the curvature of the shoulder 18.
This ring; 1.0 is assembled with the lamp socket by passing the body member 13 of,
the latter theretln'ougrh, during; which the spring lingers 26 yleld sufficiently to permit the lips to pass over the collar 15 and then snap ver the end wall 231 thereof. When so positioned the-Flange 19 is in contact with the shoulder 18. This ring is thus rigidly held by the lamp socket at both ends hereof and the two portions'of the sockets are so gripped against movement therebetwcen as to prevent separation thereof.
In opposite sides of the ring member 10 are the slots that permit the ends of the push plug 16 to pass therethrough during the assembly of the ring with the lamp socket.
. What I claim as new and desireto secure by Letters Patent, is
1. Tn combination with a lamp socket, having a body member and cap member; a one piece device of the character described in ring [oi-1n, one end of which engages a shoulder upon the body member and the other end of which engages a shoulder upon the cap member and holds the members against endwise movement relatively to each other.
2. In combination with a lamp socket havino' a bod member and a ca member a collar thereon, the body member having a reduced portion with a shoulder connecting the adjacent larger portion; a one piece device of the character described in ring form with an inwardly turned flange at one end which engages the said shoulder when the ring is assembled with the lamp socket, and spring fingers at the opposite end of the ring which engage the face of said collar opposite to that of said shoulder.
3. A shade holder having a ring with a collar at one end provided with a plurality of slots that are open at one end with the end portions of the collar between the slots turned inwardly to provide lip portions, and the opposite end of the ring having an inwardly turned flange, whereby when assembled with a lamp socket one wall of the collar and said lip portions engage oppositely disposed walls of a collar upon the lamp socket and the inwardly turned flange will engage a shoulder upon the lamp socket and hold the members 01 the lamp socket against endwise movement relatively to each other.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto ailixed my signature.
