SHADE HOLDER Appucation mea May 27, 1925. fsexiinaaaose. Y
The present invention relates to shade holders and is moreparticularly directed toward a shade holderv suitable for holding a glass shade or the like from the top of an electric candle, or from an electric lamp socket.
The present invention contemplates a form of shade holder which has suitable means for poses of illustrating the invention several ot the many possible embodiments in which the present invention may take form, it being understood that the drawings are `merely illustrative of `the invention, rather than limiting the same.r
In these drawings: y
Fig. 1 is a sectional view of an electric candle provided with one form of shade support;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the shade support of Fig. 1; and i Fig. 3 is a sectional view of a modifiedtorm of shade support showing it adapted for use with a lamp socket,
According to the showing in Figsl and 2, this form of the shade holder, is made out of a sheet metal stamping which has a tubular portion 10 adapted to iit inside the fiber sleeve 11 of the electric candle. The upper end ofr the stamping is flanged outwardly as indicated at 12 and is then drawn downwardly as indicated at 13 to provide a short tubular or cylindrical portion 14 which is adapted to` fit inside the hole of a glass shade S. The stamping is then extended outwardly as indicated at 15, and a number of prongs 16 are struck out from the material of the stamping so as to stand verticallyy as indicated in dotted llines in the leftfoi- Figs. 1 and 2. After the shade S has been passed into position these prongs are bent outwardly as indicated. In order to insulate the met-al sleeve from the contacts of the lamp socket, a fiber sleeve 17 is carried inside the metal sleeve. These parts may be held together by glue, if desired. When the lamp is removed from the socket ypable of being bent to a position to hold a c lamp socket.
oneis able to reinovethe lshade'all hoildeflr as the parts are comparatively loose.
According tothe form of the invention l, i showny in Fig. 3 the metal sleeve 10 is pro-lf vided Y,with threads 2O `adapted to cooperate withthe threads 21`ony the shellof an ordinary brass lamp socket. *The upper end of the stamping may be provided with flanges and prongssimilar to those above described, so that theshademay be heldin place.k y
It is obviousr that the invention maybe embodied in many forms and 'constructions and I wish it to be understood that the partic ular forms shown and described are but a few l of the many forms. Various modifications and changes being possible, I do not in 'any j way limit myselfy with respect thereto. I claimz" 1 1. A shade holder kfor supporting a shade o, 1
sleeve having a tubular portion and an out- K wardly directed flange at the end, said flange having an oil'set peripheral portion, and prongs'struck out of the langeand being ca` ya5, f.
shade against theoliset peripheral portion, f and means associated with the tubular portion ofthe stamping for mounting it about a 3. A shade holder for supporting a shade from the top of an electric candle or the like, said holder being in the form of a' sheet metal sleeve having a tubular portion and an outwardly directed flange at the end, said flange having an oii'set peripheral portion, and
ronffs struck out of the lanfre and bein(r cai p O D 23 pable of being bent to a position to hold a shade against the offset peripheral port-ion,
and an insulating sleeve carried inside the tubular portion of the stamping.
4.-. A metal stamping for shade holders, havinga short cylindrical portion, an outwardly directed ange at one end and an inwardly directed ange at the other, a plural- `5 ity of prongs struck out of the material of the inner flange and oldable into a position spaced from the outer flange and adapted to hold a shade therebetween, a longer tubular portion extending from the inwardly directed flange and adapted to lit inside a .candle sleeve, and an insulating sleeve carried inside the tubular portion whereby the stamping may be insulated from a lamp socket in the candle sleeve. Y 5; The combination with an electric candle having a candle sleeve adapted .to surround a l lamp socket, of a shade support having a tubular metallic portion iitting inside the candie sleeve, ariiange resting on top oi the candle sleeve, and a shade supporting shelf carried by the flange.
6.. The combination with an electric candle having a candle sleeve adapted to surround a' lamp socket, of a shade support having a tubular metallic portion itting inside the candle sleeve., a flange resting on top of the candle .sleeve,and a shade supporting shelf carried by the flange, and an insulating sleeve extending downwardly within the tubular 3e portion, of the shade support.
Signed at Meriden, in the .county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, this 25 day of May, 1925.
