Be it known that I, JOSEPH GRECO, a citizen'of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York,

improve the construction of penholders inY such a manner as to provide for the easy, reliable, and sanitary releasing of the pen point therefrom after it has been used for any length of time without resorting to a special tool or soiling ones fingers.

With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the arrange ment and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed, and while the invention is not restricted to the exact details of construction disclosed orfsuggested herein, still for the purpose of illustrating a practical embodiment thereof reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which like reference characters designate the same parts in the several views, and in which- Figure l is a vertical longitudinal section showing my improvement in operative position.

Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1, but indicating the pen point released.

Fig. 4 is a vertical transverse section 011 the line 4 4 of Fig. 1.

Referring now more particularly to the drawings it will be noted that my improved pen holder comprises a handle 10 and a finger grip 11 of any suitable construction and connected to the handle in any convenient or approved manner, with which my invention has no bearing per se. In the outer or lower end of the finger grip 11 is secured or attached in any convenient manner a connection plug 12 shown in the drawings as comprising an externally threaded body portion at the end of the lin er grip, a spike or shank 13 secured in the nger grip, and a bit 14 havin a vertical hole 14 therethrough. The blt is shown as formed flat en its top and bottom, and has its front end substantially flat, and serving as an abutment against which the pen point 15 is adapted to impinge in attaching it to the pen holder.

16 and 17 indicate upper and lower relatively movable gripping jaws whose rear ends overlap the bit 14 and are connected to a flexible pin 18 extending through the hole 14. The normal position or relation of the pin 18 to the bit is indicated in Fig. 2, the pin being shown as straight in this position. The jaws are so connected to the ends of the pin that they are held thereby nor- -mally spaced from each other to receive the hilt of the pen point 15. The opposing or adjacent surfaces of the two jaws are respectively concave and convex so as to accommodate the correspondingly shaped hilt of the pen point, as shown best in Fig. 4. The outer ends of the jaws are tapered or conical at 19 for cooperation with the similarly tapered outer end of a sleeve 20 having an internal thread cooperating with the threaded portion of the body of the connector 12. The said outer end of the sleeve is sufliciently smaller than the normal flare of the outer ends of the aws to cause said jaws to approach each other and firmly grip the shank of the pen point between them when t-he sleeve is turned toward the finger piece 11 of the pen holder as will be understood in comparing Figs. 1 and 2.

The space between the two jaws 1G and 17 is suited to receive any ordinary size or thickness of pen point shank. lVhen the pen point is introduced into the position indicated it is limited by striking against the outer end of the bit 14 and then thesleeve is tightened causing the jaws to grip and hold the pen point. lhen the pen point is being removed or replaced the sleeve is unscrewed and the resiliency of the pin 1S causes the jaws 16 and 17 to spring apart setting the pen point free as shown in Fig. 2. j

A device made in accordance with this invention is simple and relatively cheap in construction, neat and effective in operation, and highly satisfactory for the purpose intended.

I claim:

A pen holder and releasing device, comprising an externally threaded plug provided at one end with an apertured bit having two opposinglat sides and a hat end,
