IMPROVEMENT IN ADVERTISING DEVICES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 130,070, dated July 30, 1872.
Be it known that I, WILLIAM RAPHAEL, of the city and county of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Method of Advertising, of which the following is a full and complete description, reference being bad to the drawing hereto annexed- Figure I showing a top View, and Fig. II a vertical section.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction of a fan, the leaves of which are to be covered by advertisements, and which is to be set in a rotary motion by being attached to any musical instrument having a motive power already, or to which such power may be applied or at any time attached.
I attain this end by a combination of wheels, B, which connect the fan 0 with the,mnsical instrument A. The fan 0 has upon its shaft the propellin g-wheel b and has two side walls, 0 and 0 which hold the fan-leaves c c 0 850., while they again swing in hinges o 0 0 The wheel I), which is fastened upon the axle driven by the motive power of the musical instrument A, imparts its motive power through the wheelb to the wheel b and through this puts the fan in a rotary motion The fan attachment to be connected with the musical instrument may be constructed of wood, metal, or any other suitable material; and the musical instrument with the advertis ing attachment may be placed on either a table or platform suitable for the object in view.
The advantages of this fan arrangement for advertising purposes consist in the obtaining of a much greater surface as compared with an ordinary cylinder or drum. The leaves of the fan, being hung on hinges, appear in a perpendicular position as the fan revolves, and admit of the easy reading of the advertisements placed thereon.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
