TOY BOAT. APPLICATION HLEDJULY'J6. rays.

I "mo 1 Application n t-arm e,
To all whom it may concern I Be it known that I, JULIUS Konr a c tizen of the Unitedv States, and a res dent-of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the countyand State of New York,
have invented anew and Improved Toy.
Boat, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description- This invention relates to toys and has' for an object the provision of an improvedconstruction which requires some considerable skill and accuracy to fully enjoy the proper operation of the various parts. I Another object in view is to provide atoy in the shape of a ship or other article with movable parts, and a releasable catch for holding the parts together whereby when an object is thrown or shot againstthe catch the parts will be released for giving the effect of a boat being blown up by an explosive shell.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a top plan view of a toy dlsclosing an embodiment of the invention, cer-- tain parts being broken away for better illustrating the operating mechamsm.
Fig. 2 is a section through Fig. 1 on line 22, the same being on an enlarged seale. Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 2, but showing the device in an open or knocked down position.
Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view showingthe catch and associate parts.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates what may be termed a platform provided with a number of traction members 2 in the shape of wheels, there being preferably four wheels, though a greater or less number may be provided Without de arting from the spirit of the invention. (5 a member 3 which may be termed .a base which is formed to represent the shape of a ship at the water line. base are sections 4, 5, 6 and 7. Sections 4 and 5 are connected to the base 3 by hinges 8 and 9, while sections 6 and 7 are connected to the base 3 by hinges 10yand 11. The vari ous hinges just mentioned are positioned at the edges of the base so that the sectlons or parts 4 to 7 inclusive may be swung outwardly as shown by sections 4 and; 5' in Fig. 3. The various sections are formed. to give the appearance in the present instance of' a battle-ship, though they may be formed to represent other formsof shlps or'e'ven Specification of Letters Patent. j I

spirit of the invention. T
Whenthe and 2 with the catches '12and 13 holding the sections together. Catch 12 is provided with a notch 14 at the lower end whereby holding extensions 15 and 16 are produced,
said holding extensions setting on, opposite sides of upstanding lugs 17 and 18 on "plates 19 and'20. These plates are secured by screws 'or'otherwise tothe sections 4 and 5 as shown in Figs. 2 and 4, so that when the catch12 is in position the sections 4 and 5 will be locked in an assembled position. Catch .13. operates identical with catch 12 and'the parts are constructed identical, but this catch acts to lock the sections 6 and 7 while catch 12 acts to lock the sections 4 and 5.

departing from i Arranged at the upper end of catch 5 is a 7 target 21, while a similar target-22 isarranged at theupper-end of catch 13 so that when theparts are in the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and an article is thrown against either target the particular catch associated "therewith will be dislodged and I the springs 23mm 24 respectively will cause the various sections to move outwardly pivotally as shown in Fig. 3. are secured in suitable recesses in base 3 and are compressed into the recesswhen the sections are assembled and continually tend to move upwardly so that when the catches are moved either by an article striking the tar gets or any other'mann'er the sections will be automatically and quickly thrown over to giveina limited sense the appearance of the ship having been torpedoed or blown up by some explosive. Preferably thetargets aresetup as shown and then the one playing with the toy will use a small gun and shoot at thejtargets. This will require accuracy in order to knockoff either of the targets ber of shots it will be necessary to shoot straight in order to dislodge the same numbe'r'oftargets; r

2. A toy of the character-described comprising a vehicle structure, a base mounted on the vehicle structure, said basebeing shaped to conform tothe usual shape of a well known article, a super-structure-mounh ed on the base conforming to the same well known article above mentioned, said superstructure be ng divided into a plurality of pairs ofsectmns, means for pivotally mountng each section on said base, an upstandin lug arranged on each of said sections, sai lugs being positioned so as to be near each other when the sections are in a folded or assembled position, a catch for each pair of sections formed with an upright body having a notch in one end for accommodating the upstanding lugs on the sections, and a target connected with the end of said body opposite said notch.
