SPOON ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Applicaton filed October 29, 1918. Serial1io. 260,215.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SIDNEY PLASCLASCO- vrrm, a citizen of the United States, residing at Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented new and useful Improvements in Spoon Attachments, of which the following isa specification.
This invention has reference to an attachment for a spoon, and has for its object to produce a simple means whereby a spoon may be suspended from the mouth of a vessel. i
A further object of the invention is to produce an article of this character which may be cheaply constructed, easily applied to the handle of the spoon and effectively retained thereon to provide a rest or support for the spoon.
Other objects and advantages will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, reference bein had to the accompanying drawings, in w ich:
i stantially rectangular element provided,
however, from one of its edges with an extively, the jaw 6 Figure 1 is a perspective viewillustrating the improvement;
Fi 2 is a transverse section through the hand e of the spoon showin the improve ment attached thereto, and ooking downward thereon.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the provement detached;
Fi 4 is a, similar view of a clamp which may e employed; and
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a modification.
As disclosed by the drawings, the improvement comprises a body member constructed from a. single piece of resilient material. The body, in plan comprises a sub tension, the latter designed to be bent over the body to form a suspending element or" tongue 5. The'body, in a line with the inner beads are so spaced from the inner or connected portion of the jaws as to engage with 'upon the handle.
one of the edges of the spoon handle.
It will be noted that as the jaws exert a. tension toward each other the spoon handle will beimpinged therebetween, and under ordinary conditions no additional means need be employed for holding the device However, in some instances it may be found desirable to provide additional holding means,'and 'in the preferred embodiment of the improvement -I have illustrated a wedge member or clamp comprising a substantially U- shaped element 11, either the'limbsof which being designed to be inserted between the jaws Patented Apr.8,191 9.
- to contact with one of the jaws, say the jaw 6 and one of the sides or faces of the'spoon handle. By reference to Fig. 2 of thedrawings it will be seen that the jaw 6 is of a greater length than the jaw 7, so when the wedge is in position one of the outer rounded corners thereof is contacted by the head 8 of the jaw 6, while the inner and opposite rounded corner of the said wedge is in contacting position with the bead 8 of the jaw 7. Thecontacting enga ement of the outer corner with the bead 8 o the jaw 6 prevents the accidental outward movement or the disconnection 'ofthe wedge from the handle edge of the tongue is folded upon itselff forming spaced ring jaws 6 and? respecing in a direct line with the tongue 5, that is, the tongue is formed from the portion of the body that provides the jaw 6. Both of the jaws have their edges rounded upon themselves, and preferab y extended inwardly. The-beads 8 provided by the referred to rounded portions permit of the handle 9 of the spoon 10 being readily inserted between the aws, and the and jaws. v p
. In Fig. 5 the construction is substantially similar to that described, except that the tongue 12 extends outwardly from the body 13, instead of being arranged directly opposite the body as illustrated in the preferred embodiment. I Also in the said Fig. 5
one of the jaws, say the jaw 14 has a thread- I ed orifice, the threads of which being engaged by the threads of a binding element 15. The element 15 contacts with one of the sides or faces of the spoon handle to efiectively secure the device thereon.
Having thus described the invention, what is-claimedas new, is
In an attachment for the handles of' spoons, a body constructed of spring material bent upon itself -,to provide oppositely disposed co-aoting spring jaws designedto receive and impinge therebetween the hendleof a s -oon or' the like, said jaws being of unequa length and having their edges beaded, an angle tongue formed on oneend of one of -the-jaw's, a substantially U-sheped binding element having one of its limbs designed to be inserted between the longer jaw and one of the faces of the handle and its second limb arranged over the shorter jaw to force the last mentioned jaw in tighter ing one of the outer corners thereof frictionally contacted by the head of the longer jaw to hold the said element against accidental removal from its engagement with the jaws and with the handle.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
