Be it known that I, ALLEN HERMAN KERNGooo, a citizen of the UnitedStates, residing iat Baltimore city, State of Maryland, have invented certain new and usefu Improvements in Buckles, of which the following is a specification. f

Thisv invention relates to buckles for securingthe ends of straps and the like, and the invention has for its object to provide a veryvsimple and efficient buckle which is entirely in one piece and therefore easily and cheaply manufactured.

The object stated is attained by means of a novel. combination and arrangement of parts V'to be hereinafter described and claimed, v and in order that the same lmay be better understood, reference is had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification.

Referring specifically to the drawing the buckleV which is the subject matter of the present application for patent is in the form of a frame composed of parallel,`- laterally spacedl side members 5 connected. at their ends by cross bars 6 and 7, respectively, and intermediate their ends by a cross bar 8 These cross bars are at and the side members arealso flat. u

The end cross bar 6 hasY a downturned outer edge 9 forming a depending flange, from which latter project spurs 10` which have a slight curve so that their extremities lie beneath the cross bar and are spaced l therefrom.

The side members 5 depend from the cross hars 6, 7 and 8, and they are located on the same side thereof as the spurs 10.

The cross bar 8 has a sl'ght downward bend, "as shown in Fig. 4: so that-it is oli'set downwardly with respect to the end cross bars 6 and 7.

that end of the buckle having the cross bar 7. The other end 12 of the strap enters the buckle from the opposite end having the cross bar 6, beneath which latter it passes so that the spurs 10 may be stuck through the strap end as hown in Fig. 2. The strap end 12 is also passed over the top of the cross bar S and beneath the end cross bar 7 so that its extremity now projects from that end of the buckle which is entered by the looped end 11 of the strap, the latter now lying beneath the strap end 12. Both strap ends seat between the depending side members 5 of the buckle. By passing'the strap end 12 over the intermediate cross bar 8, this portion is held elevated above the eX- tremities of the spurs 10, and is thus prevented from accidentally slipping oft' the latter. Tension on either or both ends of the strap holds the end 12 securely empaled on the spurs 10.

As shown in Fig. 3 the device is made out of a single piece of sheet metal or other suitable material which is formed by ypunching or otherwise with two transverse slots 13 to define the cross bars 6, 7 and 8. Opposite side portions of the blank are bent down on the dotted lines 14; to form the side members 5, and a narrow projecting end portion of the blank carrying the spurs is bent down on the dotted line 15 to form the flange 9 and to properly position the spurs. The device is therefore easily and cheaply produced.

I claim:

A buckle comprising side bars, end cross bars and an intermediate cross bar connecting the side bars, the side bars depending from the cross bars, one of the end cross bars having a depending flange carrying inwardly directed spurs, and the other end bar beingllat and lying wholly inside the the intermediate cross bar being positioned below the plane of the end cross ars.
