Description

a H. o WEEJVER,
improvement in Door-Checks.
N-o. 129,875; Pat'ented July 23, 1872 nu mni stantially in the manner shown.
Unrrnn S'rA'rns PATENT QFFIOE.
HORATIO 1). WEEVER, OF MOUNT VERNON, INDIANAf IMPROVEMENT IN DOOR-CHECKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 129,875, dated July 23, 1872.
Srnomronrron. To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HORATIO D. WEEVER,
of Mount Vernon, in the county of Posey and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Stops; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference 1 being had to the accompanying drawing and to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation and Fig. 2 is a plan View.
A represents the support of the door-.holder,
' upon which are cast the stops or shoulders at a forcontrolling the motion of the moving parts. On top of the support A is pivoted the to operate against the stops of shoulders at a.
' This part B is pivoted to the support A by the screw 0, and this screw also fastens the support to the floor, D represents the doorarrester, made curved and constructed sub- It is provided with a rod or bar, E, which passes horizontally through a hole or slot in the central part of the swinging piece B. The sliding rod or bar E is held by a set-screw, b, passing through the top of the part B. By this means the. doorarrester D may be adjusted to suit doors of different thicknesses, and also both right and left hand doors, as the rod or bar E can readily be taken out, turned over, and inserted again.
With the door-holders heretofore made it has been necessary to have two or more sizes to suit thick or thin doors; but with my improvement the same machine may be applied to any door. It is also of importance that the holder should fit properly on the door, for when the door is too thin to fit between the projections on the usual arrestcr and the stop it will, when forcibly opened by the wind, rebound from one side to the other again and again until it is finally at rest, thereby making a great noise and causing much unnecessary wear to both the holder and the door where it comes in contact with the holder. If the door is too thick it will not catch at all. All
this is overcome by my improvement, for it is adjustable to any door, thick or thin, right or left hand.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The arrester D, constructed as shown, and provided with the rod or bar E, in combination with the slotted swinging part B and set-screw b, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. The combination of the support A with shoulders at a, swinging part B with screw 0, and the adjustable and reversible arrester D with rod or bar E and the set-screw b, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HORATIO D. WEEVER.
Witnesses:
GEORGE WOLFLIN, SIMEON H. PEARSE.
