Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES T. Rosunn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Camden, in the county of Camden and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Package-Ties, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improved package tie and the principal object of the invention is to provide an improved type of tie for holding a package closed, the tie consisting of a bottom plate having fabric connected with the ends thereof and connecting plates connected with the fabric and extending in overlapping relation and releasably connected by an improved latch.

Another object of the invenion is to so construct the connecting plates and latch that the connecting plates may extend in overlapping relation and the latch passed through a selected slot in the upper plate.

Another object of the invention is to so construct this tie that it may securely but releasably hold the package and to further so construct it that it may easily accommodate itself to the size of the package, the fabric sections permitting a tight engagement about the ends of a package.

This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a top plan view of a package with the improved fastener in place.

Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation showing a package secured by the improved tie or :lw ener.

Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional dew of the connectin plates of the improved package tie. the latch being shown in e evation.

This pa kage tie is positioned about the package 10 which in the illustration is in the form of a box and is province. with a bottom plate 11 havin" the fabric strips 12 connected therewith. These fabric strips or sections 12 will be preferably formed of woven metal and are connected with the

end plates

13 and 14 which extend in overlapping relation as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and 3. A carrier plate 15 is secured to the free end portion of the plate 13 and has its end portions split to provide side tongues and an intermediate tongue, the side tongues being bent back upon themselves to provide bearings or sockets 16 and the intermediate tongue 17 extending between these hearings.

The latch tongue 18 has its base engaged by the tongue 17 and is provided with side arms or pins 19 which extend into the bearings 16 thus connecting the latch tongues with the carrier. The latch tongue will be formed of flexible material such as copper 01' any other suitable material and the

13 and 14 may be also fori'ned of a flexible metal. It will thus be seen that when the tie is placed about a package, and the plates 13 and 14: extended in overlapping relation, the tongue 18 may be passed through one of the slots 20 of the upper plate 14. If desired, the free end of the tongue 18 may be passed through one of the slots 20 thus providing additional means for holding the latching tongue in the operative position. Vhcn it is desired to release the package tie, it is simply necessary to bend the tongue 18 upwardly and it can then be passed through the slot. of the plate 14 thus releasing the tie.

It will thus be seen that with this tie, a. package can be securely but relcasably fas tencd and further that the tie can be released and again used.

lVhat is claimed is:

A tie of the class described comprising a metal base plate, fabric strips, each connected at one end with one end of said base plate. metal conne ting plates, each connected at one end with the free end of one of said strips, said connecting plates overlapping when in operative position, the outer or overlapping plate having longitudinally spaced transverse slots. :1 carrier plate secured to the free end of the inner or underlappino; plate. and a pliable latch tongue carried by said carrier plate and adapted to extend through one of the slots in the outer connecting plate whereby the tie is secured in operative position.
