Ltitihiet To all whom it may concern lie it known that I, J 011): I'l I-lnss, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cale donia in the county of Washington, State of iilfissouri, have invented certain new and use- .tulImprovements in Shoe'Lace Il olders and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear. and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention is directed to improvements in shoe-lace holders, and has for its object to produce a device tor convenienitly securing the knotted portion of a shoe-lace to prevent the same from beeoming accidentally untied.
d ith this and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrange ment of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.

The device consists of a pair of sheet metal plates 1 and 2, the upper edges of which are provided with spaced eyes 3, which, when in registered relation are adapted to receive the pin 4t, thus hingedly connecting the plates.
The plate 2 is formed. with a rectangular opening 5, the side bars 6 formed thereby l'JClllQ' provided with a series of alined s urs 7, the same beino' adapted to bite into the unknotted. ends of the shoe-lace, when the. knot formed by the tying of the same is positioned in the opening A rod 8 is slidably mounted in a pair of guides 9 carried by the plate 2, the inner end of said rod being" provided with a head 10, while the outer end of the rod 8 projects a sntlicient distance beyond one of the side edges of the plate 2 so that the same may be conveniently grasped for sliding said rod, the head of Specification of Letters Patent.

The horizontal web l2 is soldered to the plate 1 and is of sullicient. width to position the vertical web 1 3 in spaced 'relation with the plate 1 to accommodate the head 1.0 carried by the rod 8.
In use the plate 1 is placed under the knotted end oi the shoe-lace and the plate 2 is then swung upwardly. whereupon the spurs carried thereby will engage the part ot the unkuotted portion ol the lace while the knot projects through the opening 5. The rod 8 is then forced inwardly until the head thereof engages the latch 11, thus firmly locking the plates top-ether. and preventing the accidental uutyina ot the lace. \Vhen it. is desired to untie the lace it is only necessary that the rod 8 be operated to withdraw the head thereof from engagement with the, catch, wherei'ipr'm the plate 2 may be swung downwardly and the device removed and the lace untied.

A. shoe-lace holder consisting of a pair of plates having" their upper edges hingedly connected, one o'l said plates being provided with side bars to produce a rectangular opening, spurs carried by the side bars, a catch carried by the other plate, and consisting ot. a vertical web spaced from the plate. alined guides formed upon the first named plate, a rod slidably mounted in the guides, a head formed upon the inner end of the rod, said head being adapted to engage the space between the web and plate when the same is swung against its enacting plate and the knot of a shoe-lace is positioned in the rectanguhn: opening of the first named plate and is engaged by said spurs.
