ADJUSTABLE SHADE-ROLLER AND CURTAIN-HOLDER.
- Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Ma l. 1919.
Application filed May 9,1918. Serial No. 233,476.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN- L. KINIKIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Garden City, in the county of Finney, State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Adjustable Shade-Rollers and Curtain- Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be'a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appe'r-' tains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a combined adjustable shade roller and curtain fixture, and an object of the invention is to provide an improved device of this kind involving simple, efficient and practical features of construction, one of the features of construction consisting of a clamp-ing bracket, to support a pair of auxiliary brackets, one to support a curtain pole and the other to support a shade roller, the latter being adjustable to accommodate shade rollers of different lengths.
In practical fields the details of construction may necessitate alterations falling within the scope of what is claimed.
The invention comp-rises further features and combination of parts as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of the combined shade roller and curtain fixture showing the same applied to a window frame.
Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation of one of the fixtures.
Fig. 3 is a view in front elevation, showing the shade roller fixture or bracket in section.
Referring more especially to the drawings, 1 and 2 designate angular clamping plates to engage the outer edge portions of a window frame 3. These clamping plates have teeth 4 to bite into the window frame to prevent displacement of the plates. The plates 1 -and 2 are provided with extension tongues 5, and 6 denotes angular clamping plates provided with teeth 7 to bite into the inner opposite edges of the window frame. The adjacent ends of the plates 2 and 6 and 1 and 6 are respectively connected by the coil springs 8, the actions of which hold the plates 1 and 6 and 2 and 6 in engagement with the window frame. The outer portions of the plates 1 and 2 are provided with knobs 9, to be engaged by the hand of an operator for handling the plates, so that they may be arranged properly on the window frame. The upper portions of the plates 1 and 2 are provided with angular extensions, comprising the lateral parts 10,
' the upright parts 11 and the second lateral parts 12. Thesecond lateral parts are provided with apertures 13, in which the. upright supporting rods 14 are arranged. The lower ends of these supporting rods 14 are threaded and also pass through the slots 15 of "the brackets 16 and 17. Nuts 18 are threaded on the supporting rods 14 adjacent the upper faces of the brackets 16 and 17, and nuts 19 are threaded on the lower ends of the rods 14 adjacent the under faces of the second lateral parts 12, thereby holding the supporting rods adjustably and vertically in position, as Well as clamping the plates or brackets 16 and 17 adjustably in position. For instance by loosening either the nuts 19 below or the nuts 18 above, the brackets 16 and 17 may be adjusted toward and from each other. Also by loosening either set of nuts the rods 14 may be adjusted vertically. The upper parts of the rod 14 terminate in angular extensions 20, and 21 denotes a curtain pole comprising telescopically united extensible sections 23 and 24, the apertures 25 of which receive the upright parts 22 of the angular extensions 20, thereby supporting the curtain pole. The brackets 16 and 17 are angular and are provided with the upright portions 26. The upright portion 26 of the bracket 16 has a notch 27 (which is angular) for the reception of the angular end or pintle (not shown) of a shade roller (not shown), for holding the pintle from turning. The upright part 26 of the bracket 17 has an aperture 28 for the cylindrical pintle (not shown) of the other end of the shade roller (not shown), so that the shade roller might be rotatably supported. It will be seen that by means of this particular construction of shade roller and curtain fixture, a shade roller and curtain pole of different lengths may be supported on a window frame in diflerent vertical adjustable positions.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is 1. The combination with a pair of oppo site supporting brackets, means for clamping them to opposite sides of the window frame, a pair of opposite shade roller brackets provided with elongated slots and supported on the first brackets, a pair of justed positions, the rods vertically and the second brackets laterally, the second brackets having means to receive the shade roller pintles, and the rods having means to receive and support a curtain pole.
2. The combination with a vertically supported base bracket having a lateral part,
of an angular shade roller bracket on the lateral part and provided with an elongated slot and adapted to be adjusted transversely of said part, a vertical rod passing through the slot and loosely through the lateral part, means threaded on the rod above the slotted shade roller bracket and below and adjacent the under face of the lateral part for holding the shade roller bracket and the rod in diflerent adjusted positions, the shade roller bracketed transversely and the rod vertically, the upper end of the rod having an angular end to be engaged by a curtain pole. In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN L. KINIKIN.
