WARREN WASSON AND GEORGE W. DUNGAN, OF GENOA, NEVADA.
IMPROVEMENT IN HOPPERS FOR BAG-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 129,633, dated July 16, 1872.
Specification describing a new and useful Improvement in Hopper for Bag-Holders, &c., invented by WARREN WASSON and GEORGE W. DUNGAN, of Genoa, in the county of Douglas and State of Nevada.
Our invention consists in the construction of grain-hoppers for bag-filling and other ap paratus of rawhide or leather stretched on a wire or other frame, the said rawhide or leather being in one piece and formed in the shape of a common wood-hopper within the frame, and provided with a hole at the center of the bottom for the escape of the grain, which said leather or rawhide hopper we propose to coat with water-proof paint and varnish, both for making a smooth hard surface and for protecting it against moisture.
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of our hopper, with part of our said bag-holding frame, showing the manner in which the hopper is adapted to be hinged for conveniently removing it from the position it occupied when in use. Fig. 2 is a plan view of said hopper.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Arepresents the journals or trpnnions which we propose to apply to the hopper at the corners of one side, as before stated, for the purpose of hinging said hopper so as to swing off and on its frame, which said frame may be that of a bag-holding apparatus, as represented in Fig. 1, or any other. The said journals may be secured to the frame by resting on the top and being secured by staples, as shown at B, or any other suitable bearings may be provided. In this example the said trunnions consist of the projecting ends of a rod of wire, shown at O, on which the web of rawhide D, of which the body of the hopper is formed, is secured at one side. We also propose to make such hoppers of a sheet or web of rawhide or leather stretched on wire or other frame 0 c, and suitably folded up or otherwise shaped into the form of a hopper, as shown in the drawing, and then painted with water-proof paint and varnish, by which we can construct hoppers much cheaper than the common wood hoppers can be made, and said hoppers will be much more durable than any others.
We will make these leather hoppers round, square, or in any desired form.
- Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A grain-hopper made, as herein described, of rawhide or leather and a wire or other frame, 0 c, the said hide or leather portion being coatedwith water-proof paint and varnish, substantially as specified.
WARREN WASSON.
GEORGE W. DUN GAN.
