HORSESHOElNG-STAND.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 241,896, dated May 24, 1881.

Application filed March 25, 1881. (ModeL) To all whom it may concern:

Beit known that we, JOSEPH VAN HOUTEN and WM. H. VAN HOUTEN, of Naples, in the county of Ontario and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements inHorseshoeing-Stands; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings,which form a part of this specification.

Figure l is a top view. Fig. 2 is a side view. Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view, and Fig. 4 is a detail sectional view.

Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like letters of reference.

This invention relates to an improved stand for the use of blaeksmiths in shoeing horses; and it consists in certain improvements in the construction of the same, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the drawings hereto annexed, A represents anut held between the upper ends of three (or more) curved standards, B B, the lower ends of which are fixed in a ring or frame, 0.

D is a threaded rod, vertically adjustable in the nut A, and carrying at its upper end a flat semi-oval plate, E, and a curved rest, F, either of which, or the latter of which, may be removed while the other one is being used. I

G is a band or brace, adjusted around the standards B and serving to strengthen these, forming at the same time the rim of the tooltray. The latter consists of a properly-shaped plate, H, formed with books I, by which it is secured upon the rim G, as shown. Swinging drawers or boxes J are pivoted under the bottom of the tray to hold horseshoenails.

In operation the foot of the horse is rested in the curved rest F while the hoof is being pared and the shoe nailed on. While the nails are being clinched or unclinched the foot rests upon the plate E. The rests may be readily adjusted to the proper height by raising or lowering the threaded rodD in nut A. While at work the operator places his feet upon the ring or frame C to prevent the stand from being overturned. \Vhen the said frame 0 is circular in form, as shown, the stand may be easily tilted and rolled into or out of the shop.

Having thus described our invention, we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- 1. In a horseshoeing-stand, the combination of the ring or frame 0, standards B, plate H, nut A, and vertically-adjustable rod D, having semi-oval plate E and curved rest F, sub stantially as and for the purpose set forth.

2. In a horseshoeing-stand, the combination, with the standards B, of the rim or band G, and the plate H, having or formed with books I, substantially as herein described, for the purpose set forth.
