Description

N. J; SANFORD. PLASTERER'S TOOL. APPLICATION FILED 1ULY23. 191B.
Patented Feb. 18, 1919.
NELSON J. SANFORD, OF MELROSE, MASSACHUSETTS.
PLASTERERS TOOL.
1 Application filed J'u1y 23, 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, NELSON J. SANFORD, a citizen of the United States, residing-at Melrose, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Plasterers Tools, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a plasterers tool known as a plasterers bevel edge. The plasterers bevel edge as at present used is made of wood beveled along one edge and the use of the tool is to finish the plastered walls and the ceiling of a room, especially in the corners of the room. Plasterers bevel edges made of wood are objectionable on account of the expense and of the fact that they will warp when wet and that the edge becomes dulled, chipped or otherwise damaged in use.
The object of this invention is to provide a plasterers bevel edge tool which will be strong, light and durable and the edge of which will give prolonged service, perform accurate work and which may be removed and a new blade or scraper substituted therefor with very little expense or trouble.
To these ends the invention consists in a plasterers tool such as hereinafter described in the specification and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a plasterers bevel edge tool constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a cross section taken on line of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a cross section of a modified form of my invention.
Like numerals refer to like parts throughout the several views of the drawings.
In the drawings, referring to Figs. 1 and 2, 5 is a strip of sheet metal constituting a scraper, preferably beveled at 6 along its edge. 7 is a holder consisting of a piece of sheet metal bent to form oppositely disposed coverging sides 8 and 9. Along one edge of said holder the sheet metal is turned inwardly to form a channel-shaped member 10 and the scraper 5 projects into the slot 11 in said channel shaped member and is preferably fastened to the holder by means of the rivets 12.
A handle 18, preferably of wood, extends along the edge of said holder opposite the channelshaped edge and between Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 246,371.
the two sides 8 and 9 of said holder the handle 13 is fastened by rivets 1 1.
The blade 5 is preferably beveled along its opposite edges and can be reversed when it becomes worn so as to utilize both of the edges.
- In Fig. 3 a modified form of my invention is illustrated which is entirely of metal and consists of a scraper blade 15 which is made of comparatively thin metal so that it need not have its edges beveled. This scraper blade projects into a slot 16 in a channel-shaped member 17 formed along the edges of the coverging sides 18 and 19 of a holder 20. Said holder is extended laterally from the diverging edges of the sides 18 and 19 to form parallel sides 21 and 22 and a rear edge 23, forming, as a whole, a hollow handle 24;, and the metal forming the rear edge 23 being bent to form a flange 25 which is fastened by rivets 26 to the side 22.
A channel-shaped piece 27 extends alon the tool between the sides 21 and 22 and is riveted thereto for the purpose of stiffening and strengthening the holder and handle portions of the tool.
The tool is used in the same manner as the ordinary plasterers bevel edge tool and in a manner well known to those skilled in this art.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire by Letters Patent to secure is:
1. A plasterers tool having, in combination, a strip of sheet metal constituting a scraper and a sheet metal holder therefor having two oppositely. disposed sides converging laterally toward each other and a channel-shaped portion integral therewith, having parallel sides forming a slot adaptedto receive and hold said scraper.
2. A plasterers tool having, in combination, a strip of sheet metal constituting a scraper, a sheet metal holder therefor comprising two oppositely disposed sides converging laterally toward each other, a channel -shaped portion having parallel sides forming a slot extending longitudinally along one edge of said holder and adapted to receive and hold said scraper and a handle extending along the opposite edge of said holder between said sides and fastened thereto.
3. A plasterers tool having, in combination, a strip of sheet metal constituting a scraper, a sheet metal holder therefor subsides of said V-shaped holder and fastened 10 stantially V-shaped in cross section, a chanthereto. nel-shaped member inclosed between the 0p- In testimony whereof I have hereunto set posite sides of said V-shaped holder and exmy hand in presence of two subscribing tending along one edge thereof, a slot in witnesses.
