J. MAYES PLASTERER S FLOAT Filed Feb. 5, 1928 gwuentoz John/Wages Patented Nov. '13, 1 923.
JOHN MAYES, OF PORT AUSTIN, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR MANUFACTURING COMPANY, MICHIGAN.
TO MAYES BROTHERS TOOL or roar AUSTIN, MICHIGAN, A CORPORATION or" IPLASTERERS FLOAT.
Application filed February 2, 1928. Serial N0,:251,652
My invention relates to plasterers floats and it is an object of the invention to provide a light weight durable float which will not warp or split and one having retaining walls at its sides for increasing its carrying capacity and adding to its rigidity; also a float having beveled ends with comparatively sharp edges which may be used for cutting when ever needed, which enables sharp corners to be neatly plastered, all as willbe' hereinafter more fully explained.
Referring to the accompanying drawings which are made a part hereof and on which similar reference characters indicate similar parts,
Figure 1 is a perspective illustrating the application of my invention, Figure 2, an end elevation, and Figure 8, a fragmentary detail section on the line 33 in Figurel.
In the drawings reference character '10 indicates a rectangular body preferably formed.
of aluminum or other light weight metal which has a low coefficient of expansion and is of sufficient thickness to afford the necessary rigidity. The rectangular body 10 is provided with the usual handle 11 which may be of wood or metal and secured in position by any desired fastening means. Side flanges 12 extend upwardly at right angles to the body 10 at the edges of said body and serve to hold mortar, cement or the like to keep the same from sliding off, thereby greatly increasing the amount of material that may be carried on the float.
The ends 13 of the float are beveled, each of the beveled ends forming a cutting edge 7 which enables the device to be used more advantageously in plastering sharp corners, angles, and the like. 7 The side walls 12 remforce or stiffen the body of the float and are tapered from the sharp ends back for a dis-- f tance toprovide a tool with pointed ends to facilitate 1ts use incorners. On account of this constructionthe cornersdo not become rounded by wearing faster than their middle porltions, which contributes to the life of the too It will be obvious to those skilled in the art that various changes may be made in my de-' vice without departing from the spirit of my invention, and I therefore do not-limit v myself to what is shown inthe drawings and described lnthe specification but only as indicated by the appended claims.
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure byLetters Patent is: 1
1; A device of the class described comprising a flat elongated body formed of relatively thin material having its side edges upturned,
said elongated body having its ends beveled to form thincutting edges, -and ahandle fas-- tened between said upturned side edges intermediate the ends of the body, substantially as set forth. I p l I 2. A plasterers float comprisingan elongated body having a flat under surface and;
upstanding sides disposed at right angles to the flat bottom surface, said body. having its ends beveled to form a thin cutting edge, and

a handle fastened over the body of the float between the upstanding side walls, substan-
