Description

FREDERICK B. H ILLj 0F EAST NEWYORK; N. Y;
Leners' Parent No. 109,008, amd November s, 1870 nvlPRQi/EMENT in B oX-SCRAPERS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patentan `rxxxkiug paxt'of the frame.y
To all uho'm infamy conce-rn Be it knownthat I, FREDERICK B.'H1Lr., of East New York, in the' county of Kings and State of New York, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Box or Barrel-Scraper; and I do hereby declare tha the foliowing is a full, clear, and exact desrip-- tion thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art tomake and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part. of this specification.
Figure 1 is a side View or my improved.scraper. Eigure 2 is a front end view of the saine. Figure 3 is a detail view oft-he guard, looking in the direction oi' the arrow in tig. l.
Similar letters of' reference indicate corresponding parts. l My invention has for its object to furnish an inrproved tool for scraping the ends of A barrels and tlie-4 sides of boxes, to remore an old ldirection or mark, and prepare them to receive a new one; and
lt-,consists in the constructlorrof various parte of the tool, .as hereinafter more fully deserbed. A is ythe handle, which is made in about the shape shown in tig. 1.
Bis the cutter-plate, which is made triangular in i form, and is secured in its seat upon the forward end of the handle A by abolt and hand-nut, C, 'said nnb being made with a broad head, or being provided with-y h washer to give ib'a, firm seat upon the said cutterplate."
1n the cutter-plate B is formed a three-armed slut, b', each arm or branch of the-said slot leading from place by eprojeetion;1a cutter-plateaux, and entering Jthe arm or branch` of the slots b', leading back from said cutting-edge, as
the center of the piatetoward an angle of said plate,
so-tnat each-edge of the nlate maybe moved forward as it becomes worn.
The cutting-edge 'of the plate is held squarelyin formed upon the' faee of the shown in fig. 2.
1) is the gzuru'd, wincri is formed solid .upon the handie A, as shown in fig. 1, and in the shape shown in- 4fig. 3,- so that; its edge may be parallel with the eutt.iug.-edge ofthe cutter B, and thus serve as aguard to regulate the thickness of the shavings.
The edge of the guard D is made ofthe same length, or a little shorter than the edge of the cutter-plate B, so that the cutter may work close to the chines of the barrel, or into any other angle.
Having thus described my invention, I-'olaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-' opposite t-he vertex of each angle, combined with a rectangular rib-guide, a', on the l'ront time of the handle-socket., as'and for the purpose. described.
2. An improved seraperiormed by the combination of. the handle A. a', triangular cutter-plate B b', bolt Iandhaml-nut. (l, yand guard D, said parts heilig constructed'substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth. `Thelabove specification of my invention signed by' me this 26th day of Auggust,y 1870.
Witnesses: I FREDK. B. HILL Geo. W. Manen, 'JAMES T. GRAHAM.
