Description

H. PERRY.
Improvemen in Barbers Chairs.
Patented July 16, 1872.
W W M f N m UNITED STATES HEZEKIAH PERRY, OF BETHEL, MAINE.
IMPROVEMENT IIN BARBERS CHAIRS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 129,423, dated July 16, 1872.
To whom it may concern:
Be -it known that I, H EZEKIAH PERRY, of Bethel, in the county of Oxford and State of Maine, have invented a new and useful Barbers Chair; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which is made a part of this specication, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation with the position of the foot-rest and operating parts when the rest is dropped, indicated in dot-ted lines.
Fig. 2 shows a front view of the parts operating the foot-rest.
Same letters show like parts.
a shows the foot-rest pivoted at b, so as to move in the arc of a circle, as indicated by the position of said rest, shown in dotted lines and the-seat c. The foot-rest is upheld by the curved arm c jointed to the under side of said rest at d, and having a lip, or lips, like e. fis a bar extending across from one to the other of the rear legs of the chair with an edge to-receive the lip or lips e. When the lip e is dropped down over the front edge of the cross-barf, the rest a is seen supported as in Fig. 1. This cross-bar f is braced by rods '71, h, which also serve as guides for the curved arc c. 1', is a spring attached to the front side of the cross-barf and pressing under the lip e and arm c. This spring-arm d has a pedal. j, for the foot to press upon. When the footrest is to be dropped, the foot is pressed upon the pedal and quickly removed. Then the arm t', recoiling or flying up, slips up the lip c over the upper edge of the cross-bar f, and down the rest falls by its own Weight and remains, until raised, in the position seen by dotted lines in Fig. l. The rest a is raised either by lifting it with the hand or foot till the catch or lip e passes over and in front of the cross-bar f.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the foot-rest a pivoted at b, with the arm c pivoted to said rest at d, lip e,.crossbar f, spring t', and pedal j, guides or braces 7L h, all as herein set forth.
