IMPROVEMENT IN SPRING ROCKING-CHAIRS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 142,145, datedAngust 26, 1873 application filed June 14, 1873.
connected, by springs, which allow it to have a rocking motion; and consists in the peculiar mode of applying a plate-sprin g, as hereinafter described.
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a spring rocking-chair constructed according to my invention. Fig. 2 is a top view.

one upon each side of the chair; 0, a seatpivot upon each side; D, aself-adjusting back; and E E, adjustable arms; 'F Frepresent the legs or stands of the chair. The plate-springs B are attached to the top of the stands, one end to the front of the seat at Gand the other end to the rear at H, while it is attached at l the middle of the back D. The seat has pr0 jections I, which rest on the pivots U, which form points, upon which the seat rocks sup ported by the springs B. The points J J of the stand are stops to limit the rocking motion of the seat. The arms E are adjustable forward and back by means of the notched plates K on the seat, the pivoted bar L, and the sliding stop m, while the back D is pivoted to the other ends of the arms, as seen at N, and turns to adjust itself to the back of the person leaning against it.
These springs give the elastic supportrequired, are easily applied, and may be mannfactured at .a reasonable price.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
