DOOR. ATTACHMENT.
Speccation of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 7, 1919.
.Application led April 18, 191'?. SeriaI No. 162,962.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, HARRY-B. BAss, a citiaen of the United States, residing at Yukon, 1n the county of Canadian and State of Oklahoma, have invented a new and useful Door Attachment, of which the following a specification.
rllhepresent invention relates to a `device for attachment to outside doors, screen doors, automobile doors and the like, whereby to snugly hold the door in place when closed, to prevent rattling thereof, and to enable the door to be readily opened and closed without binding or sticking, due to the warping or distortion thereof.
lt is the object of the invention to provide an attachment of the nature indicated whichv is extremely simple and inexpensive lin construction. yet thoroughly practical and etlicient in use. I
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit ot the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure l is a longitudinal section of the attachment, portions being shown in elevation.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged longitudinal sectional detail of the device.
Generally considered, the device embodies a pair of elongated members telescoped transversely with spring means therebetween, one of the members being attached to the edge of a door and the other being yieldably projected to engage with the door trame. One of said members embodies an elongated strip or -base 1 having attaching holes 2, and provided with a continuous apron 3 providing an elongated pocket, the terminals of the strip 1 projecting beyond the ends of the apron 3 to form tongues 4L which can be secured by screws (not shown) inserted through holes 5 to the door. These tongues 4 may be left in the plane of the strip 1 or can be bent at an angle flush with the ends of the apron 3, for attachment to the adjacent edges of the door.
The other member 6 is in the form of an elongated trough or receptacle having its rim fitted snugly and slidably within the apron 3, whereby the two members are telescoped for parallel motion. The bottom portion of the member 6 is rounded, as at 7, to move readily into engagement with the threshold or jam'b of the door frame or casing, the floor, and over or past other parts without catching. The two members in fitting snugly together in telescopic arrangement, provide a transversely exten sible elongated device having an inclosed chamber in which the spring means is oused for yieldably projecting the memlin the modified form shown coiled retractile springs 8 are used adjacent to the ends ot the member 6 within the same, one end of 'each of said springs being engaged with a hook l0 with which the end of the member G is provided, the other ends of the spring being engaged with hooks 11 with which rigid hangers or depending rods 9 are provided, said hangers or rods being rigidly secured at their upper ends to the strip l near the ends of the apron 3 so as to hang within the member 6, the hooks 11 coactin with the ends of the member 6 to aid in guiding the latter.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is A door attachment comprising a first member including a base, and a second mem ber slidable transversely in the first member and having ends; rods secured to the base oi the first member and projecting within the second member, the rods having outwardly extended first hooks coperating `with the ends of the second member to aid in guiding the latter; inwardly projecting second hooks secured to the ends of the second member between the iirst hooks and the base; and retractile springs having their ends mounted on the first and second hooks.
In testimony that l claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto athxed my s1gnature in the presence of two witnesses.
HARRY B. BASS.
