To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, CHARLES J. B. SMITH and CHARLo'r'rni E. SMITH, citizens of the United States, and both residing at Topeka, in the county of Shawnee and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Suspensory, of which the following is a specification.

Guiinvention relates to suspensories which are employed in supporting the testicles.

The objects of our invention are first, to provide a cheap, durable, beltless, non-elastic, and washable suspensory, having facility for self support, second, to provide a supporting sack having non-elastic adjustable overlapping side portions for contracting the mouth of the sack to obtain a ariety of adjustments with ease, and, third, to provide the overlapping and overlapped side portions with non-elastic reinforcing portions, to prevent sagging of the sack.

\Ve attain these objects and other advantages by the combination and arrangement of the parts illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1, is a plan view of the blank from which the suspensory is formed, and showing the reinforcing portions;

Fig. 2, is a perspective view of the suspensory, and showing the adjustable overlapping side portions constructed according to our invention;

Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the suspcnsory embodying our invention, and showing same in operative position, and

Fig. 4, is a front elevation of the suspensory in operative position and attached to an under-garment.

Similar numerals of reference refer to corresponding parts throughout the several views.

The sack 1, is made of flexible material, such as cotton, linen, silk, and like fabrics, preferably silk. A curvilinear blank 2, is cut from the material selected, substantially in the form of an ellipse, the sides of the blank describing in contour non-concentric curves, as shown at 3 and 1, in Fig. 1. The ends of the blank are cut away transversely and a V-shaped indentation 5, is made longitudinally and centrally in the respective ends of the blank, for a purpose that will hereinafter be fully described. of the blank, at directly opposite points, at the middle of the blank. Indentations 7 are made in the blank at oppositely disposed points adjacent the ends of the blank. Reinforcing portions-8, made of material like the blank 2, are provided with V-shaped indentations 9, in its flattened side, and which are adapted to register with the V-shaped indentations 5, in the blank when the reinforcing portions are operatively assembled and combined with the blank 2. The ends 10, of the reinforcing portions 8, are adapted to register With the curved sidesci the blank, between the indentations 7, and the ends of the blank and depart from the indentations inwardly at substantially right angles, thereby providing the inner ends of the reinforcing portions with a dart formation comprising the borders 11, and points 12. The reinforcing portions 8, are sewed on the upper side of the blank, after being matched with the ends of the latter. The outer edges of the V-shaped indentations 5, and 9, and the edges of the blank within the limits of the reinforcing portions, are bound together by any suitable binding, stitching or attaching means. WVhile we show the reinforcing portions made of separate parts, it is understood that they may be formed integral with the blank material, without departing from our invention. The end portions of the combined blank and reinforcing portions, at the sides of the V- shaped indentations 5, of one end, form tabs 13, to which the lower branches 14- and 15, of a suspender 16, are secured, the latter being provided with a buckle 17, through which the suspender is looped, as shown at 1.8, and with a button hole 19, at its upper end to receive a button on an under garment. The opposite end of the combined blank and reinforcing portions, at the opposite sides of the V-shaped indentations 5, form tabs 20, to one of which a strap 21, having a buckle 22-, is attached, a strap 23, being attached to the other of the tabs 20, and adapted to be received by the buckle on the strap 21. The borders of the blank 2, are gathered from the indentations 7 toward the indentations 6, at the middle of the blank, and in suitable proportion and extent, to form of the blank a sack 1, the front border being gathered methodically to draw the tabs 13, convergingly inward, thereby causing the front border to droop in curved attached.

line, to a degree adapted to receive and support the penis, as is shown at 24c, in Figs. 8, 4 and 2. The back border is similarly gathered to produce a substantially straight alinement, so that it may conform with the upper back region f the scrotum, as is shown at 25, in Figs. 2 and 3. When the blank has been gathered and the sack formed, as above described, the latter may be adjusted and fitted to the scrotum with ease and promptness, and the side portions 26, may be drawn partially over the side portions 27,

by the straps 21 and 23, thereby facilitating a snug Wrapping of the scrotum. The nonelastic overlapping side portions 26, having non-elastic straps 21 and 23, permits the back of the sack to be drawn to fit the upper back region of the scrotum, the straps being buckled together over the penis, the sack is self supporting in a measurable degree. The reinforcing portions 8, are provided to assure the non-elastic character of the overlapping side portions to'maintain the integrity of the testicle wrapping and support. Non-elastic strips 29, are sewed on the inner borders of the reinforcing portions and attached to the sack, for the purpose of providing added support for the testicles, at their sides. The borders of the sack are bound after they have been suitably gathered, as is shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 4.

To apply the suspensory embodying our invention, the non-elastic suspender is buttoned on the under garment, in this instance .a union-suit, as shown at 28, in Fig. i. The

testicle-s are received in the sack and the lat ter is adjusted thereto, by drawing the side portions 26, to overlap the side portions 27, towhich the branches of the suspender are This action eifeots an easy, comfortable, and dependable adjustment of the upper portion of the sack to the upper regions of the testicles, thereafter, the straps are buckled together over the penis, the latter being supportingly engaged by the drooping border 24:, at the front of the sack. The suspensory adjusted as described is self supporting, in the event the suspendershall be detached. from the under garment. The entire absence of belt and othe means for attaching the suspenso-ry to the body of the wearer makes for the comfort of the user. There being no elastic or other perishable yielding materials used in the suspensory, the latter may be laundried in the ordinary way Without damage to its structure.

Having described our invention what we claim is A sus-pensory, comprising a sack composed initially of an elliptically shaped blank of flexible material having flattened ends provided with V-shaped recesses which enter the field of the ellipse, matched blanks of flexible material secured on the end portions of said first mentioned blank and provided with V-shaped recesses registering with the V-shaped recesses therein, non-elastic strips of flexible material secured on the inner borders of said second mentioned blanks and attached to said first mentioned blanks, a non-elastic suspender connected between the ends of the combined blanks at one side of the V-shaped recess, non-elastic means for detachably connecting the ends of the combined blanks at the opposite sides of the V- shaped recesses, and gathers in the anterior edge of the sack to produce a curved section, the posterior edge of the sack being gathered to produce a substantially plane section.
