s'osrnnsonr BANDAGE.
Application filed September 22, 1922 Serial No. 589,844.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED Y. BLUME, a citizen of the United States, residing at Winnemucca, in the county of Humboldt and State of Nevada, have invented new and useful Improvements in Suspensory Bandages, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in suspensory bandages.
The principal object of this invention is to provide a device of this character which is extremely simple and therefore cheap to manufacture.
Another object is to provide a suspensory which eliminates the use of the usual knitted testicle bag. 1
A still further object is to provide a suspensory which will eliminate the chafing incident to the employment of suspensories of this character.
Other objects and advantages will be ap parent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the belt portion of my device,
Figure 2 is a perspective view of my de vice as a whole,
Figure 3 is a diagrammatic view showing the manner in which the tape is laced, and
Figure 4: is a fragmentary detail perspective view of a tape retaining loop.
Applicant is aware of the fact that various forms of suspensories have been placed upon the market, which suspensories are troublesome to the wearer owing to the fact that they are hard to adjust with the result that the rubbing of the parts causes chafing, and are further uncomfortable due to excessive perspiration caused thereby.
In my device, I have entirely eliminated these objections by providing a belt which passes around the body and by lacing therethrough a tape, which tape passes between the crotch at a point just back of the testicles thereby holding the under-garment in tight engagement so as to form a support similar to those employing the use of a knitted bag;
In the accompanying drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates a belt which is adapted to pass about the body at a point above the hips and to be held together as by the usual buckle 6. It is obvious that any other means of securing the ends of the belt may be employed without departing from the spirit of this invention.
At 7 and 8 I have shown loops secured to the belt, within which loops I position rings as shown at 9 and 11. The numeral 12 designates a tape of sufficient width so as to prevent cutting into the flesh of the wearer. This tape is also provided with a buckle as shown at 13 or the ends may be tied by a knot.
The manner of lacing this tape is such as to form a substantially figure 8 when viewed from the top asishown in Figure 3.
In applying this suspensory to the person and assuming the same to be a man the tape is first passed through the ring 11, thence to the rear of the body, thence between the crotch, thence forward and through the ring 9, thence around the leg, again through the crotch crossing at a point to the rear of the testicles, and up to engage the first end of the tape.
The undergarment is now pulled between the crotch so as to form a bag or suitable support for the testicles and the tape is then tightened so as to form a permanent support or in other words, to hold the undergarment in a fixed position.
It will thus be seen that I have provided a very simple device which employs the garment as the real supporting means for the testicles thereby eliminating the necessity of laundering as is common with other types of supporters. I have also eliminated one layer of fabric, which heretofore has been objectionable in that it causes excessive perspiration of the parts, and I have provided an arrangement whereby chafing is entirely eliminated owing to the fact that the undergarment contacts the body at the points usually affected by chafing. It is also obvious that this supporter could likewise be used by women as a support for sanitary napkins, employing the undergarment in the same manner.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim In a suspensory bandage, the combination of a belt adapted to pass around the waist of the wearer, loops secured on opposite sides of said belt, a. tape, one end of said tape be ing passed through one of said loops, thence around the back of the leg and through the crotch forwardly around the front of the opposite thigh, through the other of said 1 loops, thence around the opposite leg, and through the crotch crossing at a point back of the testicles, and joining the first end of said tape.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
ALFRED Y. BLUME.
