The present invention relates to babies diapers of the type wherein no metal or other hard fastenings are used which come in contact with the sensitive skin of a baby, and are apt to cause injury or ain even if not in direct contact with the s 'n. To this end the invention has for one of its objects a diaper composed of elastic closely knit fabric, preferably comprising two similar sections of such fabric which are cut to appropriate shape so as to provide when in use a lower back portion and an abdominal portion, designed along simple lines, so that when the diaper is secured in position on the body of a baby, suitable leg openings are provided. Another object o the invention is to provide a diaper such as specified wherein the sections of fabricated material have suitable hems or selvages which, except at the top of the diaper when in use, that is at the waist line, are seamed together at the side and bottom edges so that the seams extend outwardly from the fabric body, thereby providing a babys diaper without objectionable interior seams, hems or the like. Another object of the invention is to provide a babys diaper composed of soft fabric throughout, which stretches in all directions, so that it will conform snugly to the body of the baby in such way as not to be uncomfortable. Still another object of the invention is to do away entirely with hard fastenings of metal and to substitute in lieu thereof tapes which secure the diaper to the babys body at the waist line and additional tapes which secure the diaper over the abdomen, some of the tapes being secured to that portion of the diaper which constitutes the front or abdominal portion and other of the tapes being secured to side flaps or wings which extend from that portion of the diaper at the back, so that said flaps or wings may be folded over frointhe rear onto the front portion of the diaper, the parts being so proportioned and arranged that when the diaper is properly secured ontothe body, the legs of the baby project through openings formed at the sides.

These being among the objects of the present invention, the same consists of certain features of construction and combinations of parts to be hereinafter described and then claimed with reference to the accompanying drawin s illustrating a preferred embodiment 0 the, invention, and in which;

Figure 1 is a perspective View of the improved diaper as it would appear in using position, with the tapes tied at the waist line and over the abdomen; and

Fig. 2 is a plan of the diaper as spread out flat for its entire length, the fact that the diaper is of knit goods being indicated at several places.

Referring to the drawings, the diaper is preferably composed of two sections or layers 8, 9 of closely knit cotton fabric. The fact that each of these sections or layers is knit is indicated in Figs. 1 and 2. When composed of such soft closely knit material a diaper is provided which is more or less elastic in all directions, advantage of which 1 s taken in desi ing the diaper along simple llnes, making t e entire diaper very eflicient and comfortably fitting when in use.

The two layers or sections 8, 9 are of substantially identically the same outline, being secured together in any suitable manner, so that the diaper is provided with a front abdominal portion 10 and a portion 11 which fits over the lower portion of the back of the baby, these two portions 10, 11 being respectively at opposite sides of the approximate medial transverse line of the diaper indicated by the numeral 12. Preferably the side edges of the diaper are formed with outward curves, so that the diaper gradually increases in width toward the medial line 12, thereby providing

13, 14, which extend from the ends of the waist line of the front portion 10 of the diaper, partially through that portion 11 of the diaper which is to go at the back, thus enabling the diaper to be fitted to the bodies of babies of somewhat different size, although it is preferred to make the improved diaper in three different sizes.

For the purpose of securing the diaper to the body, the same is accomplished by means of tapes, so as to avoid the necessity of using hard and more or less injurious and painful fastenings. There is a tape consisting of a middle portion 20 and

On referring to Fig. 1 it will be seen that whenthediaper shown in Fig. 2 is properly applied to the body of the baby, the back portion 11 will cover the body up to the .waist line and the abdominal portion 10 will cover it also to the waist line, at the front, and that the extension flaps or

What I claim, is:

,A diaper, comprising a fabricated body, having side edge-portions extending toward the approximate middle line of the diaper and providing between them a back portion and an abdominal portion at opposite sides of such line, the back portion and the abdominal portion being of sufiicient proportions to come to the waist-line when the diaper is in use, and the abdominal portion having a double-end tape secured intermediately of its length alon the waist-line and tape-receiving loops a so at the waist-line, and located beyond the point of securement of the tape, and the abdominal portion also having a double-end tape secured intermediately of its length to the abdominal portion along a line substantially parallel with aforesaid tape, and the back portion having side flaps with edges which are substantially in line with the waist-line of the back portion, and the flaps each having a pair of outward tapes, where y when the diaper is in use the flaps may extend over the abdominal portion and the tapes of both portions be secured together respectively at the waist-line, at which they with the
