APPLxcATxoN FILED MAR. 21. 191B.

ff@ l SH01/M213 WILLIAM G. JOHNSON, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
COME.
Specicaton of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 3, 1918.
Application ltiled March 27, 1918. Serial No. 225,046.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLLAM G. JOHNSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combs, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to new-and useful improvements in combs and the principal object of the invention is to provide means for heating said comb so that the comb will have greater effect upon the hair. Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple and durable in construction, reliable and elicient in operation and one which can be manufactured and placed upon the market at a mimimum cost.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim. In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout theseveral views, and in which:-
Figure 1 is an elevation of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section.
Fig. 3 is a cross section.
As shown in these views, the device comprises a back part 1 carrying the teeth 2 and a suitable handle 3. I prefer to make said handle of heat non-conducting material and saidhandle may be either detachably connected with the backr or formed integral therewith. 4 represents a casing or housing secured to the top of the back 1 and projecting beyond said 5 indicates a burner tube located within the housing and arranged above the back 1. This tube is provided with the perforations 6 which are so arranged that the flame will copies o! this patent may be obtained for back as shown in Fig. 3.
ve cents each,
impinge upon the bottom of the casing directly above the back 1 so that said back and the teeth will be heated. The burner tube projects from the end of the casing and is provided with an air-mixing device 7 which is preferably made adjustable, as usual. 8 indicates a tube connected with said device and passing through or connected with the handle 3. This tube at its free end is provided with a valve 9 and is adapted to receive the gas tube 10 which is to be connected with the gas burner. 11 indicates an opening in the housing through which the burner tube may be lighted. 12 indicates a chimney carried by the casing through which the products of combustion may escape.
It will thus be seen that when the gas is turned on and lighted that the flame impinging upon the bottom of the casing will heat the comb, the products of combustion passing olf through. the chimney.' I prefer to locate a thermometer 13 on the top of the casing. The degree of heat may beregulated by the valve 9 and the device 7.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features 0f my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination andV arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.Y
What I claim is:
A device of the'class described comprising a comb, a casing connected with the back of the comb and having a lighting opening therein, a handle connected-with the comb. a gas tube located in said casing and provided with perforations therein for directing the flame against the bottom of the casing, a tube carried by the handle and connected Vwith said burner tube, an air mixing device interposed between said tubes and a chimney in the casing.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
WILLIAM Gr. JOHNSON.
