Description

E. DESLOT. APPARATUS, FOR DRYING HAIR AND FURS. APPLICATION FILED JAN.18, 1909.
941,980 Patented Nov. 30, 1909.
EDMOND nnsro'r, OF PARIS, FRANCE,
ASSIGNOR TO SOCIETE LECARON FILS, OF PARIS,
FRANCE.
APPARATUs non DRYING HAIR AND FURS.
a wee.
Application filed January 18, 1909.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDMOND DnsLo'r, of Paris, France, have invented'a new and use ful Improvement in Apparatus for Drying Hair, Fur, or the Like, which is fully setforth in the following specification.
This invention relates to improvements in the apparatus for drying hair and furs for which Letters Patent of the United States No. 890,267, were granted me June 9th, 1908, and wherein air and warm gases pro duced in the apparatus itself are carried along and projected outside by a fan to which a quick movement of rotation is given.
These improvements are chiefly applicable to the hand drying apparatus used by hairdressers for drying hair after it has been washed.
The improved apparatus is more easily transportable than heretofore, being lightened and decreased in size, and at the same time its usefulness is increased owing to certain modifications of the principal parts.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a side view of the apparatus showing the driving mechanism in dotted lines. Fig. 2 is a View of the other side of the apparatus showing the grating through which fresh air enters the heating chamber. Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the line X K Fig. 1.
1 is the base of the apparatus which base at the same time forms the receptacle for the lamp. The wick 2 of the lamp extends through a burner tube 3, into the heating chamber at, provided in the compartment 5 of the apparatus. A central compartment 6 contains a suitable fan 7 which draws in the warm air from the compartment 5 through an opening 8 provided for this purpose. Fresh air passes into the heating chamber Al through a grating 9 occupying a part of the outer wall of the compartment 5. The spindle 10 of the fan is actuated by means of a multiplying train of gearing 11, contained in a compartment 12 of the apparatus, motion being communicated by means of a crank 13 actuated by hand. Fixed to Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 30, 1909.
Serial No. 473,030.
these three compartments is a handle 14: whereby the apparatus is held. On the upper part of the central compartment 6 is the delivery nozzle 15 for the hot air which is ejected with a certain force by the fan.
The operation of the apparatus will be readily understood. On turning the crank handle 12 the fan, through the medium of the multiplying gear, has a very quick a11- gular speed imparted to it, which produces a draft of warm air through the opening 8 of the compartment 5. This air is previously heated by passing from the outside through the grating 9 over the flame of the wick 3, burning in the compartment a, and then acraunulating in the compartment 5.
The warm air having a. speed equal to the tangential speed of the fan is projected onto the hair to be dried through the nozzle 15.
As will be seen, this apparatus is of less size and weight than heretofore and the box-casing before employed, as well as the flexible tube, are dispensed with as the nozzle 15 can itself be directed toward the part which it is required to warm and dry.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is A portable apparatus of the character described, comprising a base in the form of a receptacle for a liquid-fuel, a central compartment above said base and a rotary fan mounted therein, a compartment to one side of said central compartment, communicating with said central compartment, the fuel receptacle and the outer atmosphere, and a burner located therein, another compart ment on the other side of said central compartment for the fan driving mechanism, and driving means for said fan.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EDMOND DESLOT.
Witnesses H. C. Conn,
GABRIEL BELLIARD.
