S'-FmGUsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jonesburg, in the county of Ivfontgoinery and State of Missouri, have invented certainL new and useful Improvements in Heaters for Oil-Lamps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to a. heater for oil lamps and has for one of its objects, the provision of a device of this character, which may be readily applied to a lamp burner for supporting a cooking utensil or the like so that the same may be readily heated.

Another object of this invention is to provide an outer casing held upon the burner by the usual chimney supporting arms and having therein a perforated sleeve which receives in its lower end the usual wick-tube and the portion of the wick which projects above the tube, whereby the flame from the wick will be prevented from smoking and an article placed upon the outer casing will be thoroughly heated.

A further object of this invention is the provision of a heater for oil lamps of the above stated character, which shall be simple, durable and efficient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.

With these and other objects in view, as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

For a complete understanding of my invention, references will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a vertical sectional view of a heater for oil lamps, constructed in accordance with my invention,

Fig. 3 is a side elevation drawn upon a reduced scale, illustrating a cut-out portion within the outer casing to receive the usual cap of a burner.

Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates a body portion of a lamp having the usual wick-tube 2 for receiving'! an" ordinarywick and which is* covere'd'by'l afhinggjed'capr` 3, having the ordinary slot for allowing the flame from the wick to oi'itward-l through the cap. lIChe body portion l of the lamp has the upwardly extending chimney supporting arms 4l. The foregoing description relates to a well known construction of lamp and to which my invention is applied.

In applying my invention to the above stated character of lamp, the cap 3 is swung upon its hinge to a position as illustrated in Fig. 2. A cylindrical outer casing 5 is received by the chimney supporting arms 4 and is provided with a semi-circular opening 6 in one side thereof to receive the cap 3.

A pair of relatively spaced braces 7 are secured to the wall of the casing 5 and each is provided with a slot 8 for receiving a perforated sleeve 9 which receives in its lower end the wick-tube 2 and the portion of the wick which, projects above the wick-tube, so that the flame from the wick will be confined within the perforated sleeve 9 thereby rendering a substantially blue flame which will give forth a great amount of heat. The upper end of the outer casing 5 is provided with a plurality of circular arranged openings 10 for admitting air to the interior of the casing 5 and also which will receive air upwardly through the burner for providing the flame conned within the perforated casing with sufficient air.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing,4 it will be readily seen that a device has been provided which can be readily applied to an ordinary type of lamp by removing the chimney therefrom and which will readily support a cooking utensil or like for heating the same.

While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.

I-Iaving thus described my invention, what I cla-im is:

1. As a' new article of manufacture, a heater attachment for oil lamps comprising an outer casing having openings near its upper edge and adapted to rest at its lower edge upon the body portion of the burner, relatively spaced supporting arms secured to and located within the casing, and a flame confining perforated tube located within the casing and secured to the arms, the lower end of said tube being spaced upwardly from the lower edge of the casing to receive the wick tube.

2. The combination with a lamp including a wick tube and a cap, of a cylindrical Y outer casing having a slot therein to receive the cap, relatively spaced supporting arms secured to the wall of the casing and having elongated Slots therein, and a perforated tube extending through the slots of the arms and having its lower end disposed over the wick tube to confine the flame therein.
